  • T-Shirts Celebrate 40th Anniversary of "Getter Robo"

    Also, Go Nagai launches news "Devilman" manga

    The original Getter Robo anime and manga both ran from April 1974 to May 1974 with the distinction of pioneering the concept of the machines combining into a super robot hero. Akita Shoten is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the still popular series with a pair of battle collage and cover art t-shirts from creator Ken Ishikawa and contributor Go Nagai, appropriately offered offered in three color options.   • Discotek Announces "Yowapeda" and "Lupin the 3rd Jigen's Gravestone" Licenses

    "iria" Toei's "Little Mermaid" and "Go Nagai World" also licensed

    Since October, anime distributor Discotek has been teasing big news on a sports license. This weekend, that news dropped. Yowamushi Pedal series 1 and series 2 Grande Road will be released on home video English subtitles. Along with this, they announced plans to released Lupin the 3rd Jigen's Gravestone on DVD and Blu Ray. This will be their first title to have a brand new English dub, included along with Japanese with English subtitles.

  • VIDEO: Go Nagai's Legendary Manga "Devilman" Featured in Can Coffee CM

    The tagline says,"The human race, Wake up,!"

    UCC Ueshima Coffee started selling its new carbonated coffee drink "FULL THROTTLE" in Japan since May 19, and has featured Devilman, one of Go Nagai's most famous manga series from the 1970s, in the TV CM and various advertisements. Check the video after the jump.

  • VIDEO: Go Nagai's "Devil Man" Promotes Japan's FTTH Internet Service

    One of the most important works in the Japanese manga history

    Japanese internet provider company So-net has recently launched a new FTTH internet access service "NURO" and has run an advertisement campaign called "NURO DEVILMAN" featuring Go Nagai's classic manga from 1970s, Devil Man.   • 1m Tall "Mazinger Z" Figure Slated for 2014 Spring Release

    A part of the profit will be donated to the earthquake disaster areas

    Mazinger Z is a super robot manga/anime series created by Go Nagai in 1970s and no doubt one of the most popular robots in the genre. In commemoration of the 40th anniversary, NODA-YA in Miyagi Prefecture will release a 1/18 scale Mazinger Z figure in Spring 2014. Check the details of the 1m-tall figure after the jump!

    If Osamu Tezuka is the "God of Manga," then Go Nagai is manga's legendary dirty uncle, a transgressive figure, enemy to the PTA who pioneered genres from combining mecha to transforming magic girls. The Mazinger Z and Cutie Honey author will soon  be getting an interesting tribute in America with the Q Pop shop/gallery, located in the historic Little Tokyo area of Los Angeles, planning an exhibit in June. More after the jump.
