Last Saturday after the outdoor portion of J-Pop Summit Festival day one ended in San Francisco's Japantown, NEW PEOPLE Cinema ran a free program of music videos from Japan called Tokyo Freshly Squeezed. The 23 videos were selected and presented by MUSIC ON! TV, a satellite cable music channel in Japan under Sony Music Group. Bump the jump to check out our exclusive conversation with producer Jun Hosoya and see the full list of artists who were introduced!
We attended an invite-only "Cool Japan" lecture from designer Takeshi Wakabayashi of SOU・SOU, presented by NEW PEOPLE and the Japanese Consulate General as part of J-Pop Summit Festival 2011. The company's split-toed shoes, in particular, won two prizes in the Visit Japan Campaign – Japan’s Attractive Souvenir Contest 2010, but SOU・SOU also make clothing for daily life based on traditional Japanese designs. Hit the break to hear about Wakabayashi's fashion philosophy and check out our pictures from the SOU・SOU fashion show!
What better venue for fans to show off their VOCALOID dance routines live than the J-Pop Summit Festival in San Francisco's Japantown? Kozue and Ikura from Danceroid judged, and we took a pile of pictures. Check them all out after the jump!
Sunday afternoon, Brian Zisk of the SF Music Tech Summit hosted a VOCALOID conference called "The Voice of Future Music" as part of J-Pop Summit Festival 2011 in San Francisco's Japantown. Bump the jump to hear what some of the content creators themselves had to say. We threw in some of their YouTube videos as well!
Yesterday in San Francisco's Japantown, the J-Pop Summit Festival got pretty chilly near the end, but there was still just as much fun stuff to do as on Saturday. Read on to check out our photos of the second (and final) day, including the K-ON! English voice actresses in concert mode!
Layla Lane rocked San Francisco's J-Pop Summit Festival so hard on Saturday that I couldn't help but say hey at the afterparty. Lucky for us, Heday, Valerie, and their drummer Cam had time to meet up for a casual and candid chat about all that they do (yep, including bargain shopping and french fry eating) before heading back to LA. Full (and I mean full) transcript after the break!
Saturday started off cold and foggy, but given the Day-Glo sunburn I am currently sporting (to my eternal shame), I think we can say that the weather ended up cooperating and everyone had a good time. Bump the jump to check out our pix from around the festival on day one!
Yesterday at the J-Pop Summit Festival 2011 in San Francisco's Japantown, fans of Victorian-inspired Lolita fashion gathered to show off their Baby, The Stars Shine Bright collections in the brand's fashion contest. I'm sorely tempted to say something like "lift the petticoat to check out our photo gallery," but I think I'll just stick with "bump the jump."
We reported earlier that Ikura and Kozue from the VOCALOID dance group, DANCEROID, were going to be performing at the J-Pop Summit Festival in San Francisco, and as of yesterday they have done just that! Groove your way past the jump to check out our photo gallery and a video of the pair goofing off (to music) in their hotel room later on in the evening...
This weekend's J-pop Summit Festival in San Francisco's Japantown marks the U.S. debut of the arcade version of the VOCALOID rhythm game, Hatsune Mikue: Project DIVA. Bump the jump to hear some more about the game and our experience playing it!
