American's Asian art/pop culture chroniclers, Giant Robot have begun hosting an exhibit of the work of illustrator/manga artist Katsuya Terada (character design for the original Blood: The Last Vampire, a very heavy metal version of the Monkey King legend) their GR2 location in LA. Katsuya Terada, character designer on Blood: The Last Vampire and manga artist of the full color Monkey King, seems to be doing a lot of murals lately. In May, he did one for the Kyoto International Manga Museum. This past weekend, he did one at J-POP Summit is in San Francisco. This month also saw him do a giant squid, using squid ink, with the 8000×2700mm work being display at Ueno Station Hirokoji. Get a look after the jump.
San Francisco's 2013 J-Pop Summit Festival announced its first Guest of Honor earlier today, with renowned illustrator and manga artist Katsuya Terada set to attend the event. He'll be promoting his new art book, Katsuya Terada Ten - 10 Year Retrospective, as well as signing autographs and live-drawing. More after the jump.
The 2013 J-POP Summit Festival, the popular yearly San Francisco summertime Japanese Pop Culture celebration, has announced the appearance of one of Japan’s greatest illustrators – Katsuya Terada – as a special Guest of Honor. The popular annual weekend event, which returns for its 5th year to San Francisco’s Japantown district, celebrates Japanese pop culture, music, art, anime, fashion, and film and will place on Saturday and Sunday, July 27th - 28th, 2013.
Earlier this month, the Kyoto International Manga Museum hosted a demonstration with Katsuya Terada, character designer on Blood: The Last Vampire and manga artist of the full color Monkey King, live drawing with a felt-tipped pen on a 2100mm × 1800mm surface. Sketchtravel was a unique international charity art project. Its red sketchbook was passed from one artist's hand to another like an Olympic torch in an artistic relay through 12 countries - collecting contributions from the likes of Hayao Miyazaki, Katsuya Terada, Taiyo Matsumoto (TekkonKinkreet) and animation legends/married couple Atsuko Fukushima and Koji Morimoto. Katsuya Terada, whose alias is "Rakugaking" (graffiti king) , is probably most famous for his character design works for the anime film Blood: The Last Vampire in 2000.
