To promote the ongoing theatrical run in Japan, the official Japanese website for Pacific Rim: Uprising has posted another collaboration art featuring Gipsy Avenger from the sequel film and one of Japan's most well-known super robots, Mazinger Z, from its latest feature Mazinger Z: Infinity released in January. 52-year-old acclaimed robot anime director/designer Masami Obari draws a special collaboration art for Pacific Rim: Uprising, a sequel to Guillermo del Toro's 2013 movie Pacific Rim, for its Japanese release. It was revealed at the opening day event for the film held at the Toho Cinemas Hibiya theater in Tokyo yesterday. See his impressive hand-drawn art and a video report of the event after the jump.
In a team-up that all of the kaiju fans have been dreaming about, Godzilla and the Jaegers from the Pacific Rim film series go toe-to-toe in a special collaboration visual illustrated by Hidetaka Tenjin that celebrates the Japanese theatrical releases of Pacific Rim: Uprising on April 13th and Godzilla - City on the Edge of Battle on May 18th. Universal Pictures has officially lined up a release date for Pacific Rim 2, which recently added John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Attack the Block) as its star. With Steven S. Entertainment journal Variety has reported that Derek Connolly (Jurassic World, Kong: Skull Island, Safety Not Guaranteed) has been hired to write the latest version of a script for a Pacific Rim sequel, set to be directed by Steven S. DeKnight (showrunner on the Netflix Daredevil series). Jon Spaihts penned a previous draft.
