Sentai Filmworks has announced that they have licensed, Short Peace, the anime anthology curated by the legendary Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira, Steamboy) which includes the 86th Academy Award nominated Best Animated Short Film "Possessions," directed by Shuhei Morita (Coicent, Freedom). Eleven Arts and Sentai Filmworks have announced plans to bring Short Peace, a new omnibus film from Akira's director, Katsuhiro Otomo to North American theaters. The Suda51 2D side-scroller that serves as the fifth and final part of Katsuhiro Otomo's Short Peace anthology is making its way to North America and Europe, and Namco Bandai previews the game and a bit of the anthology itself in a new trailer after the jump.
This year, 19 films were submitted for Best Animated Feature Oscar contention. Since at least 16 were accepted, a field of five films have received nominations, including Hayao Miyazaki's final anime feature, The Wind Rises. One of this year's most exciting works of animation marking the anime landscape is Short Peace, an anthology of shorts presented by Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo and Gundam studio Sunrise. Having opened in Japanese theaters on July 20th, the collection of more experimental works from field's top talent is now scheduled to be released on Blu-ray and DVD on January 16th, along with the tie-in PS3 game.

Short Peace opens in Japan July 20th. Spinning off from this as a "fifth" entry in theproject will be Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day, a PlayStation 3 “high-speed effect action” 2D side-scroller set in modern Japan, directed by Tokyo Jungle‘s Yohei Kataoka and written by No More Heroes' Suda51.
