This weekend is one of the big events on the otaku calendar. The twice-yearly exhibition of garage kits, figures and other physical marvels known as Wonder Festival (or WonFes) hits Chiba. Among the impressive items at the event will be a set of air-soft replica guns autographed and sketched by manga author, designer and doujinshi creator Kenichi Sonoda.
Wonder Festival is the world’s biggest figure festival which takes place twice a year - once in Winter and once in Summer. The first Wonder Festival of 2017 is set for next Sunday in Japan. Good Smile Company and Max Factory will be attending the event as a joint booth called the 'WONDERFUL HOBBY LIFE FOR YOU!! 25′ booth! Called the world's largest modeling festival, celebration of kits, figures and more returns to Chiba's Makuhari Messe on February 19th for the winter edition of twice-yearly Wonder Festival. As with the last couple years, the mascots Wanda-chan and Reset-chan are illustrated by Kiyohiko Azuma, manga author of Yotsuba&! and Azumanga Daioh. Move over popular anime skaters, but these cuties have put on the blades.
The summer version of Wonder Festival, the twice-yearly expo for garage kit hobbyists and professional figure makers, took place this weekend at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, and Good Smile Company's Wonderful Hobby Life For You exhibit had an extensive showcase of upcoming super deformed Nendoroid figures, with everything from Re:ZERO to Suicide Squad. With June soon ending, Good Smile Company has been previewing the limited items which they will be bringing to this season's events, like LA's Anime Expo, taking place next weekend, and the summer Japan's big figure event taking place July 24th at Chiba's Makuhari Messe. Kaiyodo and Good Smile Company have jointly launched a "Wonda-chan Next Door Project," to produce new version figures of the mascot character of the world's largest garage kit event, Wonder Festival. Its first product "FILE:01 Route 12 Ver." will be sold at the upcoming Winter 2016 event on February 7. Check the details after the jump.
