North American manga publisher Yen Press told readers to pay attention to the editor's letter in the November issue of digital magazine Yen Plus for some important news. Turns out that the announcement was that anthology, or at least its current incarnation, will end with its December issue. More after the jump.
Today was Yen Press' turn to announce a slate of manga licenses at New York Comic Con. The most recognizable name, and a nice representative of the trend towards the supernatural was High School DxD, Ichiei Ishibumi and Hiroji Mishima's manga take on the series about a lech resurrected as a demon. English language publisher Yen Press announced at Japan Expo USA that they've licensed Reki Kawahara's video game inspired sci-fi light novel series Sword Art Online and Accel World, inspirations for the respective anime, as well as Tamako Nakamura's Sword Art Online Aincrad manga and Tsubasa Hazuki's Sword Art Online Fairy Dance manga. Kiyohiko Azuma's Yotsuba&! is a charming, whimsical manga, intended to recapture the spirit of childhood, but given that it's about a child raised by a single father, running in a mature seinen anthology, maybe it's not entirely inappropriate that it made a prominent cameo in a recent episode of frequently raunchy American sitcom Louie. Yen Press, publisher of manga such as Bunny Drop, Yotsuba&! and Soul Eater, as well as adaptations of other media such as Gossip Girl, Twilight and Maximum Ride, has reached an agreement with social gaming publisher Gaia Interactive to publish a series of graphic novels based on Monster Galaxy. Comic fans may have heard of Avi Arad, the Israeli-American businessman who took control of Marvel following its 1996 bankruptcy. In 2010, Arad was named the chair of anime studio Projection I.G's American branch, and recently discussed working with I.G's chief game director and game writer on The Innocent manga.
