Simulcast Showcase: Powerhouse

Every season, a fan-favorite emerges from the rest of the pack to boldly stand beyond the rest of the competition. While it’s still too premature to say which ones will hop into that category, the internet is ablaze with speculation regarding which series will be the premier series to watch.

Here at Crunchyroll this season, we’ve got an abnormally large number of series that have a pre-existing following that might help project these series to the upper echelons. Whether they come from popular manga adaptations or are the pre/sequel storylines, this will be a season with more shows to watch than ever before.

Let’s start with: The Prince of Tennis II
Middle school students fought fiercely against one another in a national tournament. Now, 50 chosen representatives return to fight again as high school students!

The stage is the U-17 (Under Seventeen) Japanese Representative Training Camp. Middle school students have been invited for the first time to a camp known to produce the best Japanese tennis players. National champions from Seigaku, Hyotei, Rikkai, Shitenhoji... With all the rivals from the national tournament attending, everyone eagerly awaits their reunion.

You can check it out every Wednesday at 10:30 am PST.

Now, let’s move on the fourth seasonal installment of your favorite supernatural seer: Natsume Yujinchou

Natsume Takashi has the ability to see spirits, which he has long kept secret. However, once he inherits a strange book that belonged to his deceased grandmother, Reiko, he discovers the reason why spirits surround him.

In the fourth season – aptly entitled “shi” meaning death in Japanese – Natsume delves deeper into the spiritual world in his openly compassionate manner, but will the spirit world be as open and accepting to this child prodigy or will he face a force much more menacing that he’s ever faced before?

Find out this season by checking out Natsume every Monday at 10:00 am PST.

An insanely devout fan-favorite, as well as personal favorite, Nisemonogatari joins the line up this season!

In Bakemonogatari, the story centers on Koyomi Araragi, a third year high school student who has recently survived a vampire attack, and finds himself mixed up with all kinds of apparitions: gods, ghosts, myths, and spirits. However, in Nisemonogatari, we pick up right where we left off and follow Koyomi as the psychological twists delve deeper and deeper…

Episode 1 is already out and the five girls' problems with supernatural beings have been solved, and it's now summer break, with the culture fair over. Koyomi Araragi has two little sisters, self-proclaimed "heroes" nicknamed the Fire Sisters, Karen and Tsukihi. What "fake" beast does Karen confront? What supernatural creature of the holy grounds, whose power surpasses even a vampire, has Tsukihi absorbed?

While we let that mystery simmer in the back of your minds, let’s showcase another title on site this season, coincidentally named: Another

That class in the school held a secret that nobody must speak of...Spring, 1998. When Kouichi Sakakibara (15) transfers to Yomiyama North Middle School, he senses something out of place in the atmosphere of a class that seems to be afraid of something. Kouichi is drawn to a mysterious girl, Mei Misaki, and tries to make contact with her, only to find more mysteries. As he does, the class is stricken by a disaster that nobody could have imagined! Just what is going on in this "world"?

Since we’re on the mystery tip, let’s keep the level of mystique and intriguing up with the addition of: Inu X Boku on Crunchyroll this season:
In the heavily guarded building known as, ‘Ayakashi Kan,’ only those who have undergone a strict review can reside there while being accompanied by a Secret Service agent (SS). Although Ririchiyo – daughter of the owner – refused the SS officer in charge of her security, until she discovered his true nature…

If this tickles your fancy, then tune in every Thursday at 11:30am PST.

Perhaps that was too much mystery for all of you and need something regularly light and digestible with just the right amount of anime trademarks to settle the heavy mysteries. If that’s the case, then you should definitely check out: Zero no Tsukaima

Otherwise known as Familiar of Zero F, this is the sequel to the previous series – Familiar of Zero – which launched back in 2006 with a 13 episode series. This particular series follows the adventures of second-year student, Louise and Saito at the Tristain Academy of Magic. While reluctantly paired with Saito, their relationship develops, as they solve mysteries and uncover unexpected truths, including the nature of Saito's mysterious power...

Hilarious, light, airy but not so much so that it’s distracting Zero no Tsukaima, is the perfect remedy to break up the heaviness of the previous series mentioned. You can check this out every Sunday at 9:00 am PST.

However, if light comedies that will keep you warm this winter is what you’re looking for then look no further than: Poyopoyo

Seemingly too cute for many, this will be a comedy for all ages and types! Follow this unique family and its spherical cat, in a warm-hearted comedy for the winter! Check it out every Saturday at 4pm PST.

So there you have it, seven out of the many brand new titles airing on Crunchyroll this season.
But we’re not stopping at just these seven, as there are more titles for you to check out throughout this monstrous season.

Enjoy~!

New Titles: Breaking out the Drama

Crunchyroll was the first to simulcast anime, especially one hour after broadcast on the internet. It then plowed into the mobile application field and has diversified its scope and ways in which people can view their favorite content.

Then, at the tail end of 2011, Crunchyroll officially became the first site to simulcast J-drama titles.
It all started with: Secret Agent Erika

Erika Takahashi is a former secret agent for Japan's Cabinet Information Investigation Department. Even though she is retired and happily married, no secrets ever stay secret for long. After a request from the highest level, Erika secret life emerges, secret even from her husband…

But Crunchyroll would not stop there as it would prepare to simulcast two more titles in the advent of the New Year.

Crunchyroll then moved on to simulcast: Mooncake.
The story of Mooncake centralizes itself in Singapore – the booming economic center of Asia, a kaleidoscope of cultures, and blessed with natural greenery, it is said to be the most beautiful country under the sun. Singapore’s exotic allure as the crossroads of the unique Asian culture of the East with that of the West provides the perfect backdrop for a dramatic love-story between a Japanese woman from Tohoku and a Singaporean man.

The man, a former elite banker, has lost his family to the Great Sumatran earthquake and tsunami, has chosen to re-start his life as a rescue and search professional. The woman is looking for a new life as well. The two meet under the radiant Singapore sun, and are magnetically attracted to each other.

But a tearful parting awaits them…The man wants to focus on his new goal in life, and the distance between the couple grows. Misunderstandings take place, and amidst confused feelings, the March 11 earthquake and tsunami strike Japan. The man rises to the occasion and heads to Japan as a member of DART, the elite, urban rescue unit of the SCDF. In this drama, we hope to portray how a woman, through her relationship with a Singaporean man, matures in the face of a tragedy that brutally takes away precious lives and communities developed over time and history.

Next up would then be: Deka Kurokawa Suzuki!

Kurokawa Suzuki is hailed as a detective with top-notch reasoning skills with a sensitive heart to those around him. With an array of different personalities that making working together difficult, Suzuki and two of his coworkers must solve a series of brutal cases that start emerging in their town…

Drama and all-access members can watch this every Wednesday at 7:00 pm PST, with all other members able to watch it one week later under ad-supported streaming.

Yes, the year is still young, but we’re steamrolling into 2012 with the hottest shows across all fields of entertainment now with no intention of stopping!

New Titles: Diversity is Everything

We just completed our winter simulcast announcements and with over 20 titles this season, it’s bound to keep you busy and wanting more! We’ve added shows of mystery, action, slice of life, and even ones that just provide light-hearted joy.

Let's start with one of the most visually stunning anime this season: Brave 10!

As they gather one by one, the mysterious newcomer – Nami – starts to exhibit awesome displays of power to change the balance....

Yes, its a beautiful new rendition of Sanada Sandaiki's work: Sanada Ten Braves (真田十勇士). But this time, there's a twist in the storyline that differentiate itself far and beyond the other renditions of this legendary story.
Brave 10 airs on Tuesdays at 11:00am PST

Moretsu Pirates is about Marika Katou who is a freshman in high school living on the planet "Umi no Akehoshi" somewhere in space. One day, she is told that her father, who she thought was dead, was actually alive until just a while ago, and was the captain of the space pirate ship Bentenmaru. And she also finds out that they need her, his heir, to be captain so that they can keep flying! Marika begins a new life as a high school girl, and as captain of the pirate ship Bentenmaru!

Now we're going to jump into something COMPLETELY different with the addition of Recorder and Randsell!

On the surface it seems as if Atsushi is an adult, but really he's just an elementary student! However, he is paired with a second-year high school student Atsumi, whose height is just the opposite of his. These two together create an unusual relationship and will undoubtedly instigate some comedic antics in this slice of life comedy!

Watch what happens on Recorder & Ransell every Thursday at 9:30am PST.

Ano Natsu de Matteru is also part of our winter lineup for those who want to watch the development of relationships. With summer about to begin, the stillness and boredom of the holiday is almost a group of friends. To combat the approaching boredom, these friends decide to make a film together documenting their memories together throughout the holiday. Will this truly be the summer to remember…

Ano Natsu de Matteru airs on Wednesdays at 8:30am PST.

The Knight in the Area tells the stories of middle and high school students as they grow up through their soccer clubs, compete in national tournaments, and strive for world titles. Main character Kakeru, his respected elder brother Suguru, and childhood friend Nana Mishima, along with all the teammates, rivals from other schools, and world class soccer players around him radiate their own brilliant light as they face adolescence with all their strength.

The story also incorporates the strong bond between Kakeru and Suguru, the love of their family, the friendship of their teammates and rivals, and fleeting first loves... all coming together to ignite passion in the hearts of all viewers.

The Knight in the Area airs on Fridays at 2:30pm PST.
