12/5, an extremely relatable, yet high-concept anime
PSO2 is one of those series that sneaks up on you with its real subtext. At first, it seems like a poorly animated, terribly written, and all-around awfully executed promotional anime that starts aimless and never quite finds its stride from there.

The initial premise is that a standard everyman high school protagonist is roped into the world of online gaming by both his friends and the leader ...

Some of these reviews annoy me.
So i'm basically writing this small review because i see a bunch of 1/2 star reviews saying this is a plug for a game and is just mindless advertising. And to that i say What the actual hell do you expect from an anime quite literally titled 'Phantasy Star Online 2 THE ANIMATION'.

That aside this anime is in a word Generic, and probably won't break any new grounds and will probably land a bit ...

    MY GOD THE SEGA REFERENCES!
I thought this would be ok at first. And it was! Well. Except for when the camera pans over a school fountain and it's SONIC! The plot makes me cringe so bad as the student board's duty is to play video games (for SEGA of course.) The visuals and characters are the only reason I would rate this a two star as I did chuckle a few times. At the end of the day, it wouldn't be good to watch this is you ...

    Enjoyable On Unexpected Levels.
I've played Phantasy Star from Sega Master System to Genesis, and definitely played PSO1 on Dreamcast. There's a lot of good memories for me that are associated with the game.

Even though PSO2 is not in the U.S., I wanted to see if this series was enjoyable.

It's more about the life of the gamers themselves than the game itself. While they do enter the game, episodes based around the game ...

To balance out the effect of half of a bad review
Kinda surprised at people who gave it 1* just because they thought it was a big SEGA advert. In my opinion, if you haven't watched the full show, your review is missing context and thus fails to be your accurate opinion on the WHOLE show. On my part, I appreciate the references to things like Sonic. Easter eggs are always nice touches.

    Different but not bad
It's not what I expected but I'm still enjoying it. I thought that it would be about the actual story of the game but its a school life romance about people that play it. Not bad but just different. It seems to be going at a good pace and it looks like they're bringing some unexpected elements into the anime like game characters coming to life. Should be interesting to see how it finishes.

Never played the game, but this is great so far.
With all due respect to the reviewers that logged countless hours into the actual game, that doesn't make your review of this Anime a definite truth.

I read the reviews before starting this, & I thought that this Anime's 1st ep was going to be utter garbage. However, after the episode was over I found myself thinking "This was pretty good". Clich, & at times feeling like a game ...

  • Better Than Expected
Not awful, but not particularly brilliant or memorable. Pacing and plot near the end felt quite rushed but the series starts with an enjoyable slice of life feel and comedy that isn't forced down the viewer's throat.
Recommend it to those looking for a series to pass the time.

  • A controversial piece, a grey area between advertising and not.
As a piece to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Online franchise, it's not what I expected when I first saw this show. In the anime itself there's nothing game-changing or inventive, but there's more to the game than this show story-wise.

The anime only tells part of the story and instead of revealing everything about the game, it instead explains what happens between old PSO2 and new PSO2. ...

  • A Themed Story, Half Slice of Life and Half Fantasy
The story centers around the game throughout the series but takes different perspectives related to the game at different points in the plot. The setting of the beginning is a little forced but acceptable. The overall pace is a little slow but not too bad. It might be more interesting to those who have played a Phantasy Star game, especially PSO 2. It is an okay show, given the so-so plot and ...
