Princess Hours

Alright, this is another drama that kept getting recommended to me, and I finally picked it up because of my love for Yoon Eun Hye. Well, she didn't disappoint me - she really can adapt perfectly into any role she's given.

The cheese levels were so high in this drama that I was debating getting some bread and wine to go with it. The emotions of the characters swing up and down, hot and cold. If there's a reaction to be had, you can bet the character will take the more extreme end of it.

And there's one thing that a lot of dramas do that this didn't shy away from - the female lead being hopelessly, tearfully in love with, pardon my French, an asshole. The characters were first class idiots sometimes, to the point where there was no reason to be so idiotic, except maybe stretch the drama for another episode. I almost stopped watching several times because of that.

And yet... just when you reach your limit, there would be a really cute, sweet scene that keeps you with the show. Or the character would suddenly do the right thing - sometimes something even unusual to dramas in general. And I loved that the main character did NOT have a snappy reply to everything, like a lot of main characters seem to.

To sum up: This would suit the tastes of most drama watchers, whether they watch Korean, Japanese, or Taiwanese dramas, since it has all of the "right" elements. However, if you're looking for something different, look far away from Princess Hours. Really far.

Overall: This is the very first drama I watched, and I was very impressed with everything from the acting to the wardrobe to the set on which it took place. I enjoyed watching this drama from start to finish, and I highly recommed that those unfamilar with romantic K-dramas start with this one.

Storyline: The storyline is kind of a Cinderella story. The main character Shin Chae-kyung doesn't come from a well to do family. In fact her father ruined his business and her parents are on the verge of declaring bankruptcy when she decides to marry Crown Prince Lee Shin. I actually love that they did not start off all lovey dovey because then it would have been a pretty dull drama. The couple has actually gets to know each other pretty well through hilarious and sorrowful moments and make it work in the end. The antagonists really bring the drama through manipulative plotting and bold face lies.

Music. I gave the music a 5/5 even though they play the same music throughout the whole series. It sounds nice and it's not overbearing or underused. However, I wished more music was used instead of the theme music.

Characters: My favortie character is Lee Shin's Grandmother, the Queen Mother (later Great Queen Mother), because she is so fun and giggly and never cruel. She brings life to this drama. For example, from time to time when everyone is serious she will burst out laughing and start cracking jokes. Lee Shin's sister (I'll add her name when I remember it), is very much like her grandmother. Easygoing and wise beyond her years, she adds a element of sensibility and informality to the royal family. I am happy that she was chosen to be the Queen. Hyo-rin is easily many viewers least favorite character because of refusal to let go of Shin despite the fact that he's a married man. I do not like her character, but I do not hate her. Actually, I do not hate any of the characters, but some really rub me the wrong way. Yul started off one of my favorite characters, but as the series went on he became a character that I did not like at all. Coming on to your married cousin-in-law is a dirty, selfish thing to do. Quite frankly, I thought that the knuckle sandwich that Shin gave him was well deserved. His mother is digusting. Enough said.

Acting: Superb. You really feel the emotions coming from everyone, and the dialogue is very genuine and often quite raw.. Yoon Eun-Hye is brilliant.

i usually* or I should say sometimes- get in love to stories in televisions or anything but for drama-series definitely sure! but when I accidentally saw one segment of this story at a local network I felt different. I started encouraging myself & asking to research on what is that segment I saw. Then I said to myslef ! Wowzie O_O its a Korean series. Then I said, It sure not from our country though I know k-drama is even thouse I didn't understand the words they were sayin i just felt the story through the two characters which on later research I found out to be the crown prince and the crown princess. I said it is interesting. So I looked for a DVD of it with a subtitle that I think is best and I found out that I'm right. It is one of the most interesting series that I have ever seen. I watched the series for a couple of times and I realized that what made the story interesting is the manner of the actors and actresses presented their characters. I must admit that Yoon Eun-Hye and Joo Ji-Hoon acted well and posses this charisma that even people who cannot understand their language will perfectly feel the words and understands it. THen later on, I found a series of this k-drama on youtube in English sub, then I started watchin' it~ it was much better that I can understand it without hesitating* And that I can just go on my youtube account to watch it on my free time since we all been real busy with our own stuff/school/work etc. They totally look good together and I believe the international entertainment industry can see it. I am sure billions of people are waiting for the next love series of Yoon Eun-Hye and Joo Ji-Hoon Of course myself are waiting XD!. I'm just so addictive on k-drama aint' i? lol
It's 2010 & people are talking about Princess Hours everywhere! but the story and the charisma of the two are existing in different countries. How sensation is that ! I'm wondering if it is only dream that these two can once again be seen on screen together…
This drama definitely caught me as a fanatic k-drama - some parts made me laugh & some parts made me cry it's just so romantic but overall I would say, this is one of the best k-drama ever made as I stated earlier. ^^ :happy:

i just so love this k drama so much^^ it really has a great storyline!! and not to mention KIM JEONG HOON he's being VERY, VERY gorgeous here X) ~ I just love him but at top of all starring ~ Ju Ji Hoon & Yoon Eun Hae ~ Are just so amazing~ Love couple~ I both love them together~ THis is just such a good k-drama

This was a beautiful show! It really gives you a look inside a world most never see. Great love story,with some drama but it will make you laugh,cry,cheer and maybe even yell. Much better than Prince Hours (goongS)!! Even thought it's only 24 eps you won't want it to ever end! This is a great drama for thoughts that are just starting to get into them or if you just want something awesome to watch! What you may not know is that this started as an manwha aka manga called Goong. It follows that perfectly! YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS SERIES!!

I thought, overall that this series was very sweet and cute. I cried and laughed a great deal. The storyline was interesting and the thought that many of the character's reactions towards the situations were very realistic and believeable. The music was absolutely gorgeous. My primary issue with this series was the drama between the mains and their relationships. It was a little ridiculous. I frequently found myself thinking, how many people are really that stupid. So often things could have been solved very simply, but the characters were just idiotic in one relationship blunder after another. In some ways, I think they were over-the-top naive. There were a couple of points in the series were I was so irritated with characters that I almost stopped watching. I pushed through because I hoped the ending would make up for it. Fortunately I was not let down. The ending was sweet and emotional. I would definately watch this series again, but if I did, I would probably fast forward through certain parts.

This is one of my favorite Drama out there. Next to the Coffee Prince they are equally outstanding. The plot, the many twist and love of a young couple makes your heartache, smile, cry and laugh all at the same. Its the best roller coaster ride that keeps you entertain and hanging on to your seat for dear life and at each end.. your left wanting more until the very end. In my case, I couldn't stop myself once i started the series. I had to keep going until I had finsihed all 24 episode. Bravo.

If you are deciding on viewing this i recommend a full box of Kleenex for your viewing enjoyment, you'll thank me later, I promise.

Normally i cant finish a series in one go but I found myself doing exactly that and I'll probably be back for a second or even a third viewing, that is if i don't get hampered done with other dramadies.

I found myself laughing and crying throughout many scenes but ultimately it left me yearning for more.

This is a full-bodied drama where the characters have some substance and weight unlike other dramas.

It can be highly predictable at moments but that's also part of its appeal.
