The surprise diamond in the rough
With male NEETs who suddenly have some kind of adventure populating the best-seller charts as a means of trying to remind the youth of Japan that reality isn't so bad, an unmarried former professional woman at thirty is an unusual choice for a protagonist, even if the ugly side of Japan's inequality towards the sexes comes bubbling to the surface every now and again because of it.
    In most animes ...

a really neat take on a classic theme
    Updated to episode 5.

"Damn, there are couples everywhere just 'cause it's Christmas Eve. I must retreat at once... or I'll die." - Morioka Moriko, a really neat lady.

To say this light-hearted anime about a 30yo NEET mmo junkie shut-in resonates with me, a 24yo NEET mmo junkie shut-in, understates the experience of this glorious anime immensely. If you've ever played an MMO, had online ...

Another gaming anime from a different perspective
    updated at 6

This is shaping up to be an interesting show that will be exploring everything from personal/social issues and romance, to game culture from the perspective of a players view. Taking place in both reality and in as game playtime, we get to see different aspects of peoples reactions, and how much manages to make it past their mental filters to the screen. In the first episode they ...

Well, superficially speaking, the female lead is...
INSANELY FREAKING CUTE. My God, Moriko is cute. She's adorable. She's the perfect example of how beautiful and sharp women can be in their thirties (and later). She is so cute it makes me want to bang my head on the wall. Anyway, I'm not claiming to be profound here. But as of now I think she's one of the most attractive and intelligently portrayed "real women" in anime.

    So if nothing else, ...

Cliched romcom plot, but extremely fun and well-produced
I write this review after seeing the first three episodes - I usually don't do it this early, but I think Recovery of an MMO Junkie really deserves a shout-out. It's a huge positive surprise and already one of my favourite anime in the fall season.

This show uses many tropes that were done already dozens of times, with a shut-in protagonist, part of the action in MMORPG setting ...

Not everyone will like it, or get it. That's okay.
Yes, it's the 21st century and people do actually meet and fall in love online. Now you'll probably either love this or think it's a pile of steaming garbage - it's one of those kinds of anime.

If you're below a certain age or station in life, I'll be blunt and say you're probably not going to enjoy this much. It's like The Office, the UK version with its deep cringiness and without the ...

A Nice, Nerdy Slice of Life.
When I tune in for this show, I don't worry about unexpected plot twists or anything like that (so far). This show knows exactly what it's trying to do, who it's trying to reach, and it does so with heart and awkwardness that is amusing and endearing. The characters themselves aren't necessarily the most memorable you'll find in anime, but the show is done in a much better way than some other ...

A Slice of Life Made for Gamers
This anime is only on the 4th episode but has already won my heart over. Seeing an anime with a female protagonist using a male avatar caught my attention because of the unique premise.
I think this anime has the possibility to become a classic must see for both slice of ...

Surprisingly relatable for a cute romcom
I will admit, this was not one of the shows that caught my attention when Fall 2017 rolled around. Since I am not a gamer (though I have some second-hand knowledge, thanks to friends who play), shows centered around gaming never really appealed to me. But after seeing some of the initial impressions from other people, I decided to give RoaMJ a try, and boy am I glad I did!

    Like other have ...
