Hi guys,

From now on, download renewals will not be available anymore! For the people who currently have existing quotas, they will still be available until they expire or run out. But they won't be able to renew or get new quotas.

The downloads were never that popular to begin with and had some legal issues. It also required extra time and maintenance - i'd rather focus my time on benefiting the majority of users rather than the minority. people have had a lot of problems with it also =/

Maybe we could replace it with torrent links. :D

Maybe even have our own tracker.

Poo. I meant to renew my dl quota. I do wish there was some way to download some videos though. Some vids on CR are ones that I haven't found on other sites.

Torrents/uploading sites sound good...but wouldn't they cause some problems?

The reason that I download is so that I can skip to the particular parts that I like to watch and re-watch. But, I can see the legal issues. That's why I only download for myself ... and I don't share.
Aw shucks, I was hoping to get the entire series of Haken no Hinkaku because my work experience was just like the main character's, except she is a temp employee and I was a full-timer ... who gave other full-timers a bad time just as the main character did, hee, hee. It's amazing that stupidity is so universal.

So, for those of us who know ...like...nothing...what are Torrents?

I'll try to explain the best I can, but don't hate me if it's a bit vague, you'll get the idea at least:

A torrent or bit torrent is a large file, such as a movie, that is and transferred via tiny bits, hence bit torrent. To get started the first thing you need to do is download a bit torrent client, such as azureus for example, but there are quite a few out there. Don't worry, they're really easy to use. After you've downloaded a client you can search and download almost anything via torrent: Music, manga, anime, movie, etc, etc.

Instead of googling " Cowboy Bebop", just google "Cowboy Bebop torrent", pick one of the results and download it. The torrent itsself is a small file, only about a few KB, some people mistake that for the complete file. It's not, you need to open that torrent file with your bit torrent client and the rest should work automatically. After a while you'll find some favorite sites to download from, the ones I suggested above are for drama.

Downloading torrents works through people seeding and leeching --> seeders/leechers

Seeder: A seeder is someone who has the complete file and is uploading it. A complete file is a seed.

Leecher: Leechers of course are the people who are downloading. It's only decent to keep seeding a while after you've downloaded, because torrents are all about sharing. Otherwise it wouldn't work.

One more thing you have to pay attention to is the health of a torrent. It's basically the seeder/leecher ratio. If only 2 people seed and 457 people leech, the health of the torrent will be poor, which means the download is going to be painfully slow. So see to it that you only download torrents with decent health.

You can set your upload/download speed in your client. Okay, that's it, I hope it helped and didn't sound too complicated, it's very easy and useful Image

^ You forgot to mention how torrents work. They work by downloading several pieces of the file in from separate seeds, so you're basically downloading random parts of the file. The consequences of this is that this is not a sequential download, meaning if you didn't complete the torrent, the file will not be able to run properly (since it's missing information).

Torrents also work by an upload system through sharers. As you download certain parts of the file, other "leechers" will upload pieces of the file you currently downloaded. This is why you can download torrents quickly, even if there are a limited number of seeders available. This system helps boost the speed of your download.

^ In addition, I'd like to not who should and should not use torrents. If you're on a dial up connection, don't even THINK about using a p2p program.

To get good download speeds with a torrent, you'll need to have the proper settings. If you don't cap your upload speed or number of connections, you'll have pretty poor speeds. Without a limit on your upload speed that's proportional to your connection you'll suffer from terrible rates.

Always be smart when you download a torrent. Try to always go to the fansubber's website to ensure proper authenticity.

http://www.isohunt.com is a good choice for a torrent search engine for more obscure files.

Anyway IRC is also another great choice for downloads. However, most people don't choose this option even though it's great for hard to find anime shows.

I can understand the reasons for getting rid of download, But i did like having some kind of pay per watch feature, as I don't really watch all that much. Perhaps you can come up with something comparable.

And of course I agree with BK, and would like a tracker, more exclusive or open to all members even.

I thought the DLs were a cool idea but had some questions about it. A lot of the videos are free fan subs, so then you would be paying for a free fan sub that isn't meant to be rented or sold right? I don't know if this illegal is it?
