Horror Flicks

to those who like horror movies (and/or books) what are your favorites? and what scenese got ya? what scares ya about em?

my favorites are (all books)william peter blatteys the exorcist (the movie sucked), peter straubs ghost story, IT, desperation, and a short story by H.P. Lovecraft, called The Beast in the Cave. i love them because they are all psychological horror, which is kind of necissary in text, but they also arent human...but very human-like. desperation, the exorcist and IT all deal with "demons", but its the mindfuck that goes along with that that is scary, not the actual demons themselves, really. they are very down to earth...they feel they could be real. and they are well written, but not boringly descriptive like a lot of writing is.

i love horror movies to death. few are good (ju on, ringu, sixth sense are all that come to mind recently) but tons and tons are just stupidly funny to watch. creature features, slasher flicks, and this new brand of psychological thriller/horror genre (saw, hostel, wolf creek) are just so...bad at delivering a scare, i cant help but love them. altho saw has some cool death scenes, and the story isnt god aweful, i wish we could get back to things like good oldschool jason and michael more often. i love those.

I'm really big into Saw series of movies, I'm gonna try to be first inline when Saw III comes out!

I like movies that mess with your head and make you think, and then surprise you. That's entertainment!

I saw Grudge 2 last week, not impressed. Grudge one was so much better. There's just too many things going on in Grudge 2, I don't think they really put an effort into it, but it was ok i guess.

Saw series isn't even scary, it's just gruesome, its nasty, that's what it's all about. It's not suppose to scare you, your suppose to be grossed out from watching it. Hopefully, I'll be able to go watch it.

because americans took the idea, gangraped it, then released it. the ju-on series and ringu series are good...they suck ass in america. the first of each was scary, but still not close to as good as the japanese ones. altho scarier in some places, because of a larger budget, this can also lead to it sucking. like the hand coming out of gellars head? retarded! in ju on, its just a disembodied arm that touches her.

By the way, the Friday the 13th movies were horrible. They were so predictable, you know who's going to die, where they are going to die and how they are going to die. I love Nightmare on Elm Street though, Freddy makes me laugh uncontrollably. The first Halloween movie was a classic until they started coming out with sequels.

agreed (when you let busta rhymes in your movie (halloween....ressurection?) you know you should probabaly stop making them alltogether

I'm not a huge fan of horror movies. Most I think have really lame, unplausible plots, buuut the ones i DO like are the Saw series! I'd definitely go see Saw III on opening day, but i'm busy that day :(!

The Friday the 13th movies are hilarious. I was watching it the other day and i love the part where one of the guys just randomly kills this fat kid with an axe in broad daylight.

the first halloween was great. and one of the last sequels was good (curse of michael myers maybe? the one before H2O, which sucked). rob zombie is remaking halloween. wooot! (i love rob zombie man. H1KC was awesome til the end, and devils rejects was cool as hell)

i love silent hill games, the movie was good after the first 10 min...then for about 15 more min...it was COOL, but it wasnt GOOD or SCARY. 1,2 and 4 were awesome. never played enough of 3. i cant wait for 5, and origins (5 sounds amazing...youre a madman. yay!)

FEAR is good, but i hate FPS, and doom 3 was great too...but same problem. i never played fatal frame 2, always wanted to, but the first one was scary as hell. i loved it!

for those of you that like good mind-fuck horror flicks, watch Session 9. its a little known movie, and wasnt amazing, but it had a few scares in it, and was just...way out there. one of my top 10 horror flicks, id say (other than for a laugh).

my dad, brother and i have had this thing for over a decade now where we rent crappy horror movies and laugh at em. we rent the cheesiest ones we can find, and have a great horror night. recently, since my sister turned about 3, we had to stop doing it so often, but we still did it once in awhile. and started getting drunk to boot. now he lived a few hundred miles away, so we can almost never do it. but when we can, you bet theyll be a few empty bottles of kahlua, vodka, cartons of milk(white russians are the drink of choice), pizza boxes and the shittiest horror movies you can find.
