...haha, the art is so bad, it's been such a while since i've watched this
it seems kind of ackward in a way O.O".. they shouldn't have guns at that time period?.. right? the clothes in the begining scenes give off an ancient kind of feeling but then as it continues i start seeing modern clothing and weapons..
and also if u want to know more about their "500 yrs ago" lifestyle you guys better read the manga not the first season but the second one . and yea it confusing but THIS IS THE FIRST OF ALL FIRST EPISODE OF THE LATEST SAIYUKI version (^^)
they change the story plot
and there was a saiyuki anime before i think they call it the monkey... tha autor said that saiyuki is a new version and diff. from what others expect...so u guys wont get confuse

its the first season
saiyuki reload is the second season
saiyuki burial is the OVA
and the story is a lor diff. from the chinese story "journey to the west" though the idea of saiyuki of japan was taken there
It's also a fairly old anime.. -.-
Also if you want to see the real journey to the west, then read SaiYuki Gaiden, it explains alot, also this isn't ancient Asia, it's an alternate universe, use your imagination.
I love the anime, but for those who are watching this an expect the "Journey to the West" tale, it's not really based on that, a lot of idiots don't seem to get that automatically and think they did that by mistake.
I only watched this episode and I think its confusing, the voice of the boy is annoying, animations are average (maybe not good enough for an action anime), the musics change too fast and the subs are badly timed.
This episode was kinda hard to watch.. but I'll be staying in hopes that it'll get better a little ways into the series. I know a lot of fans of this anime, so it must be doing 'something' right.
what the?? sanzo is so mean in contrary to the lovely master in journey to the west. i think hakkai has more of the personality.
this anime seems interesting.. i want to see where it goes.
@colossus912: in journey to the west, they travel westward to afghanistan before going south to india. also they start in chang'an, which is in east china
Revisiting this series-what joy!! endured it twice w/Eng-dub, but hearing orig. voice characterizations adds so much, and I'm an old pro at speed reading subtitles--Someone mentioned morals? they're for reality--this is Fiction! Get over it
Series was full of false "gods", scantily clad and disproportionate women, suggestive garbage, warped minds, the occasional smut and dirty innuendos. (Almost every ep.) So if you have morals, definitely not the series for you.
