A Quality Remake of The Grandfather of all Anime
This is the show that coined the term Anime. It's the grand daddy of them all! It's really a treat to see that Crunchyroll has put this up to watch! I remember running home every day from school to be in front of the TV to watch this! We had never encountered anything like it as American kids! Instead of silly cartoon animals bonking each other over the head, we got a grand sweeping story about ...

    took you long enough
a fantastic adaptation of a classic anime viewers will not be disapointed space battleship yamato is arguably one of the first anime to be successfully transferred over for western audiences with the original adaptation making its way to the states way back in 1979 under the name of star blazers. a must watch for any self proclaimed anime connoisseur.

    Bam! Right in the childhood!
One of the best series of all time. This and Robotech Macross were what helped define my childhood so many years back. I watched the new series a while ago, and it hits on every one of my fond memories of this series.
That said, it is not just for nostalgic folks like me, this series EASILY stands on its own now.

The anime that started it all in the west
This anime was the one that got me hooked back when I was in school. I had watched kimba the white lion and speed racer when I was very young, but Star Blazers set the hook during my teens. So happy to see this on crunchyroll. Now, give us the rest of the series...

meh, it's got flashy CGI but what does the story offer?
All dressed up cliches. You are better off watching the Matsumoto's original. The Imperial symbolism of the Yamato is lost in a universe where Japan either no longer exists or is wholly subsumed by the "UN" of 2199. What happened to Japanese super weapons destroying foreign invaders for their own sakes? Style is diminished, minus cool points!

One of the Most Underrated Anime of All Time.
Legendary cgi and quality art encompass the anime. Every scene holds important information on setting the plot for future episodes and therefore there are no wasteful filler. The space setting is believable and realistic using real world theories to push its amazingness to you, the viewer. Just imagine star treck anime style! My favorite point about this anime is that every character is well ...

  • The Classic of All Classic's.
This is the one that got me into decades of watching and enjoying anime I started watching this back in the late 70's it was so different from the animation that I was used to and had me hooked from the first few episodes. This started a lot of the things you still see in many anime's even now its not perfect but it didn't matter to me then or now I just enjoyed watching it and the other seasons ...

  • Striking while the iron is hot.
The localization is a little late, but is adapted with a quality worthy of the show's pedigree. The dub is of an unexpectedly high quality that fits well to most of the characters. The animation and detail is far above what most series have, with the occasional hickup that is to be expected. Needless to say the story is old fashioned but timeless though some of its plot points are cliche by ...

  • Authentic science fiction. Damn good, too. Sakuga fans rejoice.
[This review is updated after episode 14]
In my opinion, this show is still THE anime of the season to watch.

It is as if the writers took the last 40 years to collect feedback on the original to make this show as good as they can.

The visuals are stunning and the sounds are absolutely perfect. The impact of the ship's secondary batteries upon the enemy space cruiser in the third episode ...

  • You are in for a serious treat
Please, do yourself a favor: just stop reading and go watch this.

Getting up early in the morning to watch Star Blazers is one of the happiest memories of my childhood, back before anyone used the word “anime”. After giving up hope of this remade version showing up on any of the streaming services, I spent quite a bit of money to import the series from Japan earlier this year and it was worth ...
