Expertly combines Japanese culture with sincerity
When those unfamiliar with the genre think of anime, they tend to default to thinking of it all as 'weird Japanese stuff.'

This, in a nutshell, defines "The Eccentric Family" - it's weird, unique, based entirely in Japanese religious tradition and culture, and utterly worth watching. I don't think I've ever seen a show that seems 'more' Japanese than this one, but it certainly works all the way ...

Great artwork and a good story.
A little before I started this series I had been bopping around Kyoto via Google maps over lunch for about a week, just looking around. I found Uchōten Kazoku browsing the simulcasts and thought it might be interesting to watch something current. After the first episode I was hooked, so was my wife, which is saying something. The story line was different, the characters were interesting and the ...

Give it a chance. You will love it!
I never really considered watching this show when it was airing. But I've been sick for the last two days so I had some time time to kill, and man I am so glad that I gave this show a try. Really great characters, an interesting concept, and over all just a very heart-warming series. Definitely give it a try.

    Absolutely beautiful and breathtaking
This show has a magic to it that I haven't seen in a while. Just when I think it's silly, it gets DEEP.
Underneath the silliness, is an in depth look into the characters and terrifying revelations that will leave you breathless. This isn't just about Tanuki running around and preforming tricks. This show isnt just goofy (though it does have it's moments). It's emotional, has mystery, and dare I ...

One of the best anime of this year.
I really like this anime, its really weird, bizzare and unique. Increideble story and eccentric characters that will make you think about life... I Recommend it for my fellows anime fan...

One of the specials things about this anime is the way you can see and understand the 3 different points of view of each species but in the same time you cant hate any of them for doing what they are. Its ...

  • The most frustratingly broken anime I've watched in a long time.
I started this show and thought it was going to be great fun, I was utterly disappointed. There are many shows that are able to mix light comedy and dark topics well, this is not one of them. What starts off as an enjoyable funny anime quickly becomes a dark family intrigue story that doesn't want to commit to the seriousness of its topic. In the end I couldn't stand a single character in the ...

  • A complex yet simple story
Few anime have been as personally inspiring to me as this one. The storytelling is masterful, the characterizations are complex and engaging, and the pacing is excellent - there's never a dull moment, even when you're sure there's about to be a big lull (as most anime seem to stumble through, sooner or later).

I cannot recommend this anime enough. If you are a writer, especially, watch this ...

  • Anime at its best really
Japanese as you can be, this look at Kyoto's supernatural secret underground works as a family drama, an exploration of a city, and a look at what makes Japanese culture unique. Beautiful to watch, fun to predict, and filled with wacky details if you're paying close attention, this is an just amazing show.

  • It's Fresh For The Soul
I watched this based on a youtuber's recommendation and I was not disappointed. Immediately the show eases you in with it's patience and care for detail. The writing is top notch. It's evident the creators knew their characters well before putting a word to a page, as everyone involved more than makes the show a memorable experience. With sprinkles of surrealism meshed with unmitigated truths, ...
