  • The most frustratingly broken anime I've watched in a long time.
I started this show and thought it was going to be great fun, I was utterly disappointed. There are many shows that are able to mix light comedy and dark topics well, this is not one of them. What starts off as an enjoyable funny anime quickly becomes a dark family intrigue story that doesn't want to commit to the seriousness of its topic. In the end I couldn't stand a single character in the ...

  • A complex yet simple story
Few anime have been as personally inspiring to me as this one. The storytelling is masterful, the characterizations are complex and engaging, and the pacing is excellent - there's never a dull moment, even when you're sure there's about to be a big lull (as most anime seem to stumble through, sooner or later).

I cannot recommend this anime enough. If you are a writer, especially, watch this ...

  • Anime at its best really
Japanese as you can be, this look at Kyoto's supernatural secret underground works as a family drama, an exploration of a city, and a look at what makes Japanese culture unique. Beautiful to watch, fun to predict, and filled with wacky details if you're paying close attention, this is an just amazing show.

  • It's Fresh For The Soul
I watched this based on a youtuber's recommendation and I was not disappointed. Immediately the show eases you in with it's patience and care for detail. The writing is top notch. It's evident the creators knew their characters well before putting a word to a page, as everyone involved more than makes the show a memorable experience. With sprinkles of surrealism meshed with unmitigated truths, ...

  • A Pretty Decent Anime
Character growth was good, story lines decent, and the overall feel was immersive. I enjoyed the world build and would have loved to keep on watching this. (Literally just found out there is a second season for this so now I want to hurry up and finish this review and watch it haha)

A definite solid 4 stars and would recommend.

  • It Will Make You Feel
I can't describe how beautiful this show is. I want nothing more than for more people to experience it. I didn't say watch, because you do more than that with this show. It will take you on an emotional ridge that you won't regret. But what do I know? "I'm just a frog at the bottom of a well"

  • Glad to see this back on crunchyroll!
This anime shines in both the story and artwork.

At times I find myself just enjoying the artwork.... bright, colorful, and supportive of the story which blends a folklore fantasy with everyday surroundings seamlessly.

At the center of this story is family, which is not readily apparent at the beginning, but instead slowly unfolds as the actions of the characters exhibits this and how ...

  • an easy sort of delight~
this seems to be one of those little anime gems—beautifully animated with a good story, a nice message, fascinating characters, a great soundtrack, and no one seems to know about it. the basic premise seems obvious enough: watch shape-shifting tanuki Yasaburo live his 'carefree existence' with his family, teacher, and other acquaintances. however, within an episode it becomes clear that there is a ...

  • A realistic story about family
An old show that still remains fresh and meaningful among all the tropey animes out there.

The only word I can describe the episodes with is "humble". This humbleness may bore some viewers but intrigue others. The episodes are meaty in that nothing much in terms of action happens, but the interaction between characters reveals a subtle depth that few animes can compare to.

  • Shame to see it go...
This show was awesome. I'm glad I got the chance to watch before it the licence ran out. If you ever find a way, watch this one for sure.

Eccentric Family is definitely one of my favorites.
