  • The Family That You've All Been Waiting For...Has Arrived.
Sometimes the fantasy, mystery, and science fiction are not exactly what you need. Granted, I will say that 95% of the time that I do not feel this way, but there's always that 5%. Sometimes, I need a good family watch that makes me laugh and washes away all my daily problems, and this is it.

I just want to start by saying that what truly drives this series are its characters, and I love ...

  • Expertly combines Japanese culture with sincerity
When those unfamiliar with the genre think of anime, they tend to default to thinking of it all as 'weird Japanese stuff.'

This, in a nutshell, defines "The Eccentric Family" - it's weird, unique, based entirely in Japanese religious tradition and culture, and utterly worth watching. I don't think I've ever seen a show that seems 'more' Japanese than this one, but it certainly works all the way ...

  • Everything works in this series.
The overall theme of the series really resonated with me. The plot was deliberately paced and the development of the characters flowed well. I wholeheartedly recommend watching this. As I said in the title of this review, everything just works. This may not get everyone, but it just works well.

    Miyazaki-esque with a beautiful & complete story
Truly enjoyable anime that leaves you with a lot to chew on after the credits roll. If you are looking for something light-hearted that feels a bit like Miyazaki's movies, this is for you. This anime is only 13 episode long and provides one of the most complete stories I have seen to date. Must watch!

  • Great artwork and a good story.
A little before I started this series I had been bopping around Kyoto via Google maps over lunch for about a week, just looking around. I found Uchōten Kazoku browsing the simulcasts and thought it might be interesting to watch something current. After the first episode I was hooked, so was my wife, which is saying something. The story line was different, the characters were interesting and the ...

  • Give this one a chance
I watched the first couple of episodes and dropped it , then heard so many good reviews of it I had to give it a second try . Really glad I did , starts of confusing and slow but it comes together nicely . Well done . Lots of scenes of Kyoto I recognize too . Likeable characters ( or despicable as the case may be ) top notch animation and clever story ( try explaining it to someone for the look ...

'The Eccentric Family' is a beautiful treat!
This is a great show that took me through basically every emotion, and did it incredibly well. I didn't expect such a charming series to come around when it did, but I'm glad I caught it. Although there are some odd relationships within this community (
    ) that ...

Give it a chance. You will love it!
I never really considered watching this show when it was airing. But I've been sick for the last two days so I had some time time to kill, and man I am so glad that I gave this show a try. Really great characters, an interesting concept, and over all just a very heart-warming series. Definitely give it a try.

  • Funny, light, stand out drama
I loved this show for a number of reasons. Firstly i think the premise is great, a show about tanuki but in which there mostly portrayed as human, or human-ish. What i really like is that this isnt just about mythology is in modern day, about being a tanuki in a human world, its about growing up, living with death, being a big brother, childhood rivalries and loyalty. Its a quite deep show, ...
