I'm going to be honest, I think that the Japanese airing order is definitely a lot better. Well, remote island should have been paired together, without Mysterique sign in between. Other than that, yeah, chronological order ruins pacing.

I had the same thoughts about the American DVD - I think it was in chronological order, so all/most action happened early, meaning that the ending felt lame. It felt like it could easily have been a shorter series.

I saw the American DVD version and liked it, except the ending was a little bland. I thought the original version might be paced better and be more exciting, but it seems they're just throwing things together randomly.

the entire S1 is out of order, until the last 3 episodes. we just loved the baseball game.but you know Haruhi started to like Kyon after episode 2. in ep4, she was watching Kyon reaction on if Asahina should have a ponytail..or not.
