  • Not very good, but it had so much potential.
I've watched 12 or so episodes. It starts great then gets bad. If you keep watching, you'll be left with two huge criticisms (maybe more).

    1) The characters do not act in any sort of way you can believe - even in the context of the suspended disbelief that's necessary to enjoy anime. As an example, the whole USSR thing is about as easy to swallow as an anvil - they are rude, aggressive, do ...

  • not a front line combat anime
From the first episode you might think this is all about front line giant mecha combat. What it's really about is the people and countries supporting those on the front lines, so if you are expecting non-stop combat, look elsewhere. However, if you are looking for an anime that plays more in to the military politics and a bit of the shadow world of R&D than this is definitely for you. The only ...

  • Great Start, then...
I got to episode 16 and quit, It started out fine, then it turned into something else.
It looked like it was about Earthicans fighting off the aliens that invaded Earth, but after a few episodes it turned into a story about how all these countries wer competing with each other to show that they has the best mechs. Really? Aliens are invading Earth and destroying the people and ...

  • Great Mecha Anime Series!
Well before this became an anime series I happen to read the light novels of Total Eclipse which I really enjoyed so it was a given that I'd like the anime adaptation.

The show starts off by showing practically Yui Takamura's first real combat experience with the BETA in her TSF. After that you meet a more determined and hardened Yui three years after those events which is determined to ...

  • A little bit of everything in a strange mix
I first found this one here on crunchy and decided to watch it just for kicks and was pleasantly suprised with it!

The first 3 episodes follow a young Yui Takamura, who enlists to pilot the TSF in Japan against the BETA,something that does not turn out as she tought it would.
And then it flashes forward 6 years or so to a adult Yui and a team of multinational test pilots who need to test ...

  • Good ole bait and switch
The first two episodes are brilliantly done. Absolute masterpiece. They wonderfully set a persistent mood for the entire series: they world is dying!

But with each arc the story becomes less cohesive, mostly because of bad directing.
The main character switches to Yuuya on episode 3 and goes away from Yui. It doesn't really make sense nor is it explained by Yui isn't the test pilot with her ...

  • Loved it, easily in my top 5 favs
I personally loved it. Wish it was longer, hate that it ended like that. Overall its a great anime that embodies everything i look for in a anime. Love that it involves the countries that I'm extremely fascinated with. China, Japan, Russia, and though Alaska isn't a country, I'm still fascinated with it. Only thing i really didn't care for was the theme music for the openings and endings. So ...

  • More than just a Mecha anime
You cannot say this is not at it's core a Mecha anime, but it has many other facets.

Even when faced with an external alien threat, mankind's greatest enemy is itself. Faction's trying to gain out of the predicament, and old hatreds don't die. Even when it is harmful to the total effort, factions work to screw each other over, and you never know who you should trust.

It is also in the ...

  • This Anime Doesn't Know What It Wants To Be
It seems like an apocalyptic world with harem aspects, then it seems like a harem with apocalyptic aspects. All the female roles, including the strong and stubborn female lead, fall in love with the protagonist and it can really hamper on the experience for people who came to watch robots fight monsters. This anime is a rollercoaster, having its high moments and really low moments. I'm not going ...

    One of The Best Mechas
Of the dozens of mecha animes I've seen over the years, the gruesome and realistic nature of Total Eclipse is rare, if you're looking for an excellent distopian mecha this is truly the anime for you.

Many critique it for following the relations that develop with the women of the story, but these only serve to fit the whole of the anime and to only make a deeper connection with the characters of ...
