Uraboku

This review is based upon impressions from the first 2 episodes of the anime, plus having read the first two volumes of the manga. I'll edit it as I see more, if my impressions change.

Pretty orphan boy finds a bunch of pretty demon-fighting relatives, and a hot bodyguard who fell in love with him in a former life when he was a female. This story is fairly typical for supernatural shoujo-ish stories. It immediately reminded me of Hands-Off, because the talents of the two protagonists are similar and because the BL side of the story is very light BL, just love and innuendo, what is known as shounen ai in the US (though the Japanese wouldn't consider this to be what they define as shounen ai). There are two male side characters who are in love, but their relationship is also mild onscreen.

The anime is fairly faithful to the manga, though it covers things more quickly. It's only a 12 episode series so I guess it has to move along. The pacing is an improvement over the manga though which can get too talky. But even then it starts a little slowly.

The character designs and personalities were also faithful to the manga, very pretty, so I'm expecting them to show some more depth in future episodes. Still, they're a bit cliched in that the story is a bit cliched. Luka is the typical dark angsty protector (reminds me a lot of Hagi in Blood+). The hero is the spunky kid who's full of heart and wants to protect everyone to the point of stupidity, and is terribly sad and lonely inside. The side characters provide the villains as well as the comic relief. And they're all hot. Especially Giou Takashiro, voiced by Takahito Koyasu.

The animation and music are what I'd consider to be B level. The animation isn't top class, but it's certainly better than it could be. The music fits what's happening, but I rarely notice it. OP and ED are OK, nothing special.

At this point I like this but don't love it. It's an angsty supernatural tale where hot guys and cute girls in gothic clothing can fight, act cool, and fall in love. Fun, but don't expect a lot more.

Uraboku is an anime I highly recommend to both fans of bishies, friendship, and action. The characters are all amazingly done and the artwork is beautiful. The main character, Yuki is actually a good male lead. He isn't weak or overly strong. He's caring, sweet, and not useless and you also can't help but to love him and want to squeeze him at times. The other main character the demon, Luka Crosszeria, is probably someone every girl will love. He's handsome, protective, strong, caring, and can actually be funny at times. His love for Yuki's soul is amazing and very touching. The other supporting characters are also very well done. There's no one that is overly annoying or anyone who is too weak. They all have their own strengths and weaknesses. The storyline can be a bit cliche but with all the action and feelings with a few twist make it still enjoyable to watch. Uraboku can be seen as shounen-ai, but it can also be seen as just people having a very close bond. I loved watching Uraboku and enjoyed every minute of it. If you're looking for a nice anime about people with close bonds, some twists, action, and a bit of comedy. Then I'm sure you will enjoy Uraboku.

I really cannot think of enough good things to say about this anime! The story is wonderful (if a little cliched at times), the characters are believable and hilarious, and the art is absolutely breathtaking!

The best part of this anime, however, has got to be the main character, Yuki. Despite the fact that he has no defensive or offensive powers of his own, he refuses to sit on the sidelines and let others defend him. And, unlike most heroes/heroines in his position, he is not completely helpless. He is very skilled in the martial arts, and utilizes that skill to the fullest! The supporting characters were amazing as well, simply because of their complexity and often conflicting emotions. These factors not only make them believable, but interesting as well.

Overall, this anime is completely spectacular, and I reccomend it to anyone who wants fantasy, adventure, romance (with more than a little shounen ai), and humor, all rolled into one!

I loved it! The plot thus far has been great. I really like how, although there is a little bit of sexual tension, the plot isn't solely about romantic relations so much as intimate relationships. It gives a way better sense of what "love" is, changing it from the typical "I'm a ditzy girl following the boy I love around, doing whatever I can to please him" or vice versa for boys. It sets a good tone.

Plot: Sakurai Yuki a teenager with a mysterious power.He was abandoned at Asahi orphanage. He strives for independence. He hates being a burden to anyone near him, but at the same time, he is afraid of being left alone. Ever since he can remember, he has had a strange ability that when he touches others, he can feel their emotion.Unable to control it.




when i first saw the name of this anime i was like hmmm. but then i finally decided to give it a try. like they all say ''don't judge a book by it's cover''. anyways this anime caught my attention right away , is like vampire knight, well maybe some of you may say no it doesn't, but i think it does. just watching episode 1, it was already great. this anime full of action, emotions.when it mentioned duras it made me think about the anime Durara, the characters are all awesome, especially Luka ♥ (( doesn't everyone just love him)), i recommend this anime to anyone who likes fantasy, adventure, mystery.

I absolutely loved the characters! They were all so funny and cute. The animation was lovely. Everything was well done. I watched this so long ago so I don't really remember the music but I do remember most of the story, and from what I do remember I loved it to my hearts extent!

I'm slightly disappointed with this anime, but only slightly. I was really hyped up about it because it seemed really promising...what's there not to love about demons, a forbidden romance, and attractive characters?? I think this whole series could have ended on a high note...but it seemed half-assed. I thought Yuki was too kind, it was somewhat unbearable...but I still really liked that soft innocent personality; its rare to find that in a male anime character. I also wanted to see the relationship between Yuki and Luka to progress, as well as know what will happen once everything was revealed to Yuki regarding his past. In addition, I was hoping the ties between Reiga and Yuki would mend...I really loved their previous relationship as brotherly-like.
Overall it was a good anime, it truly had it's captivating moments! It's really the kind of anime I absolutely am infatuated with, however it just needed a tad more to bump it up to the next level. I just wish that it would continue for a little longer; make a comeback!
