I'm an US Air Force "brat". That is, my father was enlisted in the USAF while I was born and raised. The majority of my life has been spent on a military base. I'm used to well trimmed hair, a sea of green and blue uniforms, and sense of "belonging" to something bigger than myself. Though I went through a lot of crap being a "brat", I'm quite proud of my title. Even if I'm different and will never quite belong, at least I'm special in some sense. Unique. I appreciate that.
At the age of 19 yrs, I got married to Mike. He's a wonderful man; hard working, funny, and very loving. He's also in the USAF, though more from necessity than desire. (The military life really is not for him.)
I'll watch almost any anime, but I won't buy it. I rent a lot of licensed anime through Netflix (they got a good selection!) and the unlicensed stuff online. If I really take to a particular anime I'll buy it. Then I'll go and tell everyone else to buy it too. Hehe.
I much prefer manga. There's a bigger chance of finding something "original" or at least a well done rehash. It's also a lot cheaper to collect than anime.
Something interesting about anime and manga. In Japan, anime costs about 50$ for 3 or 4 episodes, while in the states it costs about 20$ for 4 or 5 episodes. Manga, on the other hand often costs 3-5$ per volume in Japan, while in the states it costs 8-9$.
I've often wondered at the price discrepancies. I'm thankful to be a US citizen as for no other reason than I get some cheap anime. But as I like manga more, I lament the 50% price increase. I wish I could read Japanese, cause then I could just go to the downtown bookstore and buy all the cheap manga I want. *sighs...*
