Serial Experiments Lain is an anime that is hard to measure how good it actually is. The only reason that this anime is considered the best of its genre, is because there is nothing that really falls into the same genre.
Story
The FIRST thing you see in the first episode is a girl commiting scuicide. Suddenly, some of the girls at the school begin to get e-mails from Chisa(suide girl), saying that she had no more reason to live, talking as if it is overrated. Lain, who has hardly touched her computer, also gets the e-mail, but unlike the others, who find it as a prank, decides to reply. Sure enough, they begin to have a small conversation. It is here that Lain begins to suddenly grow an interest in computers, and in about no time at all, her entire room is decorated with 8foot tall computer towers, wires and tubes.
Review
If you cant stand having questions when whatching a movie or tv, then this anime is not for you. If you cant sit patiently, this anime is not for you. However if you can stand the scilence of the first few episodes and not kill yourself over the questions, you are in for an incredible treat. Serial Experiments Lain mixes questions on modern scientific development with philosophy, theology, and paranormal phenomena. The anime is both intense, and sometimes stressfull. If you like the psychological kind of shows that twist one's morals and thoughts, THIS IS THE ANIME FOR YOU
4.5/5 (but honestly it wouldn't matter what i rank. you'r oppinion will be different.)
The reason this anime is so hard to review, is because I personally don't want to say too much that can spoil anything.

Azumanga Daioh is an amazing comedy that you can watch over, and over again.
Chio Mihama is a 10 year old prodigy that just entered high-school. She soon befriends Ayumu Kasuga, (nicknamed Osaka) who is an intelligent... but slow girl.
The story also follows Sakaki, Tomo, and a couple other girls.
It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to write a review for this, being that there is no actual plot, (but there is a sub-plot with Sakaki) and each character is so unique, that I could write an entire review for each of the characters, and sub-characters! The BEST I can say about Azumanga Daioh, is that it is a hysterical anime, that is a MUST watch for anime fans, and newcomers alike.
P.S. the anime is MUCH better if you watch it with a friend

Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion Is an epic story of good vs evil, and man vs world.
Lelouch Lamperouge was the heir to the "Holy" Britannian empire, until the death of his mother, and gave up his right to the throne. Now, all he wants is to make a world where his sister Nunnaly can live happily.
Japan has been concurred by Britannia, and was renamed, "Area 11." The Japanese (or now known as 11's) are discriminated against and treated at scum, with hardly no laws to protect them. Lelouch gains a strange power by a woman named C.C. (C2 in English dub) called, Geass. The power to bend anyone's mind to make them obey his every command.
The plot kicks in as Lelouch starts a terrorist group known as the Black Knights, as their masked leader, Zero, to fight against Britannia, for the rights of the Japanese. However the battle intensifies as Suzaku Kururugi joins the Britannian army, and fights against the terrorist Black Knights, and Zero. Both unaware that they are trying to kill their best friend.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is an original comedy with a slight sci-fi twist.
Kyon is an average, down to earth, high school student. He believes in no such thing as, and wants to have absolutely nothing to do with ridiculous fantasies like aliens, time travelers, espers, and other made up fairy tales. But oddly enough, ends up with someone who wants EVERYTHING to do with such things.
Haruhi Suzumiya is an active, rude, and adventurous adolescent, who drags Kyon into her new school club, the SOS brigade. A brigade invented, purely for the reason to, "find aliens, espers, and time travelers, and totally hang out with them!" As Haruhi says.
The plot kicks in when Kyon realizes that little Haruhi, has the power to bend the world to her will. (but she is completely unaware of it of coarse.) If she wants something to happen, it will. As he soon discovers that the new brigade members are made up of an alien, an esper, and a time traveler, he realizes how real her powers are, and how it may turn out to be bad, with her overactive imagination, and lust for suspense. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is an amazing anime, that you will not want to miss out on. There is a slight miscalculation in the episode ordering however, as it has been jumbled in the chronological order, dvd order, and release order.

Lucky Star is an anime made for real otaku!
Konota Is a major otaku who spends an everyday high school life with her three friends; kagami, Tsukasa, and Miyuki.
The plot kicks in immediately. There is no actual story rather than just high school girls having fun. Each character is extremely lovable (especially Konota) and the animation is pure kawaii. In fact the first half of the first episode, all they are doing is talking about food, and how to eat it. Lucky Star is an amazing comedy that just about anyone can fall in love with.

Clannad After Story is a squeal to the anime, Clannad. It is a love story that will blow you away!
The story for this anime, really kicks in when Tomoya graduates high school. Unlike most anime, where when the characters graduate, the story ends; this one just begins. The story follows Tomoya and Nagisa and their casual anime love story. But takes a realistic twist as Tomoya is growing into an adult, and begins to build a new life, getting a job, a home, and the struggle between him and Nagisa, to begin a life together. The story is utterly OUTSTANDING! You will laugh, and you will cry. But you first must watch Clannad.

Clannad is your average love story between two high school students. (with a few extras)
Tomoya Okazaki is a high school delinquent who has no real hope for his future, and honestly doesn't give a damn. His father has been a heavy drinker ever since he was young, and never had many good human relations. On his first day of his third year of high school, he encounters a girl who he will soon (and obviously) fall in love with, named Nagisa Furukawa
Furukawa is a shy and kind-hearted girl, who is repeating her senior year. She and Okazaki team up, to try and revive the drama club.
The story kicks in... well... It's hard to really name the story. Clannad is one of those anime that follows the story of one character at a time, until the episodes reach an end. Clannad is also a hilarious comedy. Especially the scenes with Youhei Sunohara. None the less, Clannad is a touching anime that is beautifully animated and each character is beautifully crafted. Especially the almost dead girl, Fuko Ibuki, who you will most likely, completely fall in love with.

Elfen Lied is an interesting story of love vs torture.
Kouta Is a kind hearted male, who encounters a mysterious girl, who is only capable of saying... "Nyu" However, Nyu is actually one of Lucy's split personalities after being shot in the head.
Lucy is what is known as a diclonius. A being with the power to enslave the human race. Diclonius is a species with a natural instinct to murder humans.
I say this is a story of love vs torture, because as the love between theese two grow, you slowly learn of a horrible past between them. The emotion begins to build up and contradict love.... and... well... torture.

Death Note Is a suspenseful anime, that takes a real philosophical turn between morals and justice. You find yourself questioning who you would side with, as the main character is changing the world for the better, but the world begins to warship him, this heartless murderer, as their messiah.
Light Yagami is a born prodigy with a great sense of justice. One day comes where he gains the most powerful weapon ever known; the Death Note. By simply knowing one's face and writing their name, they will die. Light begins an attempt to change the world, by murdering all the criminals to the world, and become a God.
The plot of the story begins to kick in when a mysterious detective, named L who has never shown his face, or revealed his true name his entire life, hunts down this mysterious killer who is murdering all the criminals.
It is not long until Light and L confront each other, face to face. The rest of the anime follows these two geniuses in a neck to neck battle, blindly trying to kill each other. L leads the Japanese Task Force to find the figure who kills the criminals with heart attacks, named Kira. When L asks Light to join the investigation, the battle becomes insane. Who will you side with? A false god saving the earth? Or the one trying to destroy him?
