  • Really a lovely short in concept
This sweet and tragic short was moving indeed, and I have to recommend it on that basis. I really enjoyed it.

The animation and overall design, however, was really lacking, and I found it not only disappointing but distracting. It's apparent that the budget for this short was minuscule, and that's truly unfortunate. The heart that's in it, though - miles and miles of it - makes up for the weak ...

  • Bring A Tissue...Or Maybe A Tissue Box
While it didn't grab my interest or pull me in as much as other series have done, this still is a great emotional rollercoaster. I mean, if you want a love tragedy, it can't get much better than this. You have the woman leaving while the man just waits on earth for her return. While the pacing is quite slow and not exciting, this is great if you want to play with your emotions!

Shinkai can truly do no wrong.
While perhaps his weakest movie, that is in no way degrading to this movie. It is simply a testament to how incredible his other works are. Voices of A Distant Star is a story of love and loss and is beautiful in every way. The relationships are real and heart-wrenching.

    Complex and Compelling
The pure, wondrous details offer an artistic backdrop for the eye as the mind grasps the highs and lows of an intriguing tale of the changes that occur as well as the friendships that endure through a lifetime.

It was ok but not really the best.
I couldn’t really get the story line much, it didn’t really explain much and I think it just points the the novel and manga for more information though I have no clue if they actually say more. It feels like a pilot to something that could have been rather then a real show. Sadly, it’s hard to get a real feel for this. It’s a lot about romance which doesn’t seem to work with mechas. There isn’t ...

What just ... (A review by an entire anime club)

This show can be summarized as follows:
Boyfriend and girlfriend attempt to maintain a REALLY long distance relationship over phones archaic even by 2002 standards, considering that she's a mecha pilot on the other side of the solar system. And nothing else happens.

Why the hell is she still in her school girl uniform? In space of all places! From a artist point of view ...

    Boring and dry short film.
Waste of time do not watch.
The characters lacked depth which I guess I should have expected from something only 25 minutes long. That aside, the Gundam knock offs were very poorly animated in the action sequences and there was zero emotion in the "love story". All the other guys here must have some weird acquired taste for this director because even 5 Centimeters Per Second put me to sleep.
