Creepy Fun even if you dont like ghost stories
Not much gets to me, I can safely say that Yamishibai creeps me the hell out! I have yet to watch an episode that doesn't give me goosebumps and make my hair stand on end. There is no gore and really no jump scares ether but what you do get is left up to your imagination which is much worse. I recommend that you watch this in the middle of the day with all the house lights on.

Amazed how much I like this!
I first saw this while browsing through the shows and was caught by the mention of Ghost Stories in the title. Looking into it more I thought i'd be a boringly animated, simple sequence of people just talking and a really in depth story, so I walked away from it.
After a while, I figured I'd just give it a try. And my, I fell in love with it.
Each story is written so perfectly, giving you a ...

    Animation style is pretty cool---
I think the creepiest part of these three episodes so far is the opening sequence. I was imagining these would be tellings of old Japanese creepy stories (Kumo no Onna, Cut Mouth Woman, etc), but it didn't really live up. The third one was my favorite so far, and I hope that they follow the trend of getting better.

  • Creepy, creepy, creepy
First season was short and creepy. Second season was still short, but not as creepy. Either way, both seasons are short and will evoke a scare out of you. Although... the second season is a bit nicer overall... to the viewer's imagination. If you're easily scared though, I don't recommend watching it in the dark at night.

  • A Tremendous Vision of Terror
I really love this show for a number of reasons.

The first thing that lures me in is the visual style. I love the shadow puppet animation and the way it works to fashion a simple yet not simplistic air to the stories.

I also love the economy of motion. They find a way to use the animation to do so much with so little. There's no flash, no wasted movements. They tell the tale and get out in ...

  • Such a great story telling series.
Urban legends & myth stories have always been an interesting source of entertainment. Because, it leaves the reader/viewer with the choice of whether they're true or not. Though most of the time people don't always find em' as terrifying as others do, because of the way one tells them (which can sometimes be hard to understand) or simply not as captivating when reading bout' them. With that being ...

  • Entertaining creepy stories.
This series features in each episode (creepy) one-shot urban stories from Japan, that means that there'll be new characters and different storyline in each episode. The animation it's similar to a kamishibai, which means that the background and the characters looks like paper. Aside from that, every character has a realistic look and feel (which means they were drawn like real-life Japanese ...

  • True or not..best folklore ever!
I was a bit skeptic to watching this short series but after the first episode I was instantly hooked! No story was the same and kept me on my toes. This anime is perfect for those who watch scary movies in the dark or say they arent afraid of anything. Love love loooove this anime.

  • Great spooky fun, a surprise!
When I turned on this show, I really didn't know what to expect, I do love Japanese horror films and this little gem is the perfect fix. Think back to shows like Tales from the Crypt or Twilight Zone, it has a similar flair to those kinds of programs. The anime consists of short yet creepy ghosts stories which I can safely assume are based on Japanese urban legends, stories and films. Every ep ...

  • wonderful creepy series
These are so well done! Every detail- from the intro to the outro and all the voice acting- exudes an unsettling feeling. The stories are chock-full of tension, and will often surprise you. They've certainly kept me up a few nights - and they don't rely on gore or other "cheap" methods to deliver a scare.
