    It gave me the spooks.
I marathoned this series in the middle of the night and my only regret is that I couldn't sleep afterwards without watching something happy. I love the style of this series and I can wait for 2! (filler spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace for more characters)

Creepy Fun even if you dont like ghost stories
Not much gets to me, I can safely say that Yamishibai creeps me the hell out! I have yet to watch an episode that doesn't give me goosebumps and make my hair stand on end. There is no gore and really no jump scares ether but what you do get is left up to your imagination which is much worse. I recommend that you watch this in the middle of the day with all the house lights on.

Amazed how much I like this!
I first saw this while browsing through the shows and was caught by the mention of Ghost Stories in the title. Looking into it more I thought i'd be a boringly animated, simple sequence of people just talking and a really in depth story, so I walked away from it.
After a while, I figured I'd just give it a try. And my, I fell in love with it.
Each story is written so perfectly, giving you a ...

    Animation style is pretty cool---
I think the creepiest part of these three episodes so far is the opening sequence. I was imagining these would be tellings of old Japanese creepy stories (Kumo no Onna, Cut Mouth Woman, etc), but it didn't really live up. The third one was my favorite so far, and I hope that they follow the trend of getting better.

  • Season 3 ruined the show
Season 1 and 2 had some hits and misses but overall most of them were decent. Season 3 was a complete disappointment. It only had misses, there wasn't a single good episode in the season. I honestly have no idea how the author would think any of the episodes from season 3 were scary at all, I mean maybe if you were 5 years old.

  • In The Same Vein as Junji Ito
While not as graphic, Yamishibai is very creepy and the art style gives off the same vibe as the work of infamous horror manga artist Junji Ito.

The second season requires a higher level of knowledge or Japanese urban legends and folk lore than the first, but that doesn't take away from the creepy factor.

  • Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories - Unique Series
After watching this series (including the newest season) I have to say that this is one of the most unique shows I`ve ever seen. The monsters are creepy, the storylines seemed like they were taken from some of the scariest storytellers, and the voice acting is really good. A lot of people seem to not like the 3rd season as much as the first two --- so I highly recommend starting at season one and ...

  • Good at what it does
I love alot of these episodes and usually watch a whole bunch at a time. most dont really even get me creeped out since they visabbly show monsters, but there are some that have made me feel cold and throughly creeped, those have been,Hair,Video,The Empress Doll,Umbrella Goddess, and The Next Floor. these are the cream of the crop i my opinion

  • Childishly horrorrrr
It's a very nice "anime" series in less than 5 minutes. The first season was definetly the scariest, where it was actually more scary with a lot of tension. Leaves you with fear over simple things in daily life. However the 2nd season is slightly less scarier than the first one, but then the 3rd season is rather less scarier, the artwork is fantastic and unique but not scary in comparison to the ...
