    A personal Favorite!
I'm relatively new to the anime scene. I watched classics like Akira back in the day on VHS and when I stumbled across CR I was awash in possibilities. Most of them, to put it bluntly, seemed redundant or just terrible. When I clicked on Yamishibai and read a few reviews and the description I had to try it out. I find the Japanese take on paranormal and spiritual horror as well as their ...

SET RIGHT UP! SET RIGHT UP! IT’S TIME FOR YAMI SHIBAI.
I randomly put on Yamishibai last year and absolutely fell in love with the series. The kamishibai-style episodes can be hit or miss, but as a whole, it's a wonderful, creepy ghost/monster story show.

The first two seasons--with more traditional ghost stories--are probably the best so far, the third season started having "giant monstrosities" in every episode that can come across as trying too ...

It was good for the first 2 seasons.
Now of course this is a biased opinion like most reviews are. (I'll be doing my best for no spoilers but directly how story telling was with this series.)

This series is pretty creepy, might even scare people who are not used to creepy/eerie shows. Even without prior knowledge of Japanese Folklore the stories will show you how a lot of superstition is perceived in Asia. Sometimes ...

Seriously did they hire Junji Ito to write season 3
All three seasons are great but the third one really had me questioning if they hired Junji Ito. Because seriously episode 2 looked like it came right out of his mind. I'm going to be really sad if they don't make a season 4 because this show gives me such chills. Great use of time and really makes it worth several re-watches.

    It gave me the spooks.
I marathoned this series in the middle of the night and my only regret is that I couldn't sleep afterwards without watching something happy. I love the style of this series and I can wait for 2! (filler spaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaace for more characters)

Creepy Fun even if you dont like ghost stories
Not much gets to me, I can safely say that Yamishibai creeps me the hell out! I have yet to watch an episode that doesn't give me goosebumps and make my hair stand on end. There is no gore and really no jump scares ether but what you do get is left up to your imagination which is much worse. I recommend that you watch this in the middle of the day with all the house lights on.

Amazed how much I like this!
I first saw this while browsing through the shows and was caught by the mention of Ghost Stories in the title. Looking into it more I thought i'd be a boringly animated, simple sequence of people just talking and a really in depth story, so I walked away from it.
After a while, I figured I'd just give it a try. And my, I fell in love with it.
Each story is written so perfectly, giving you a ...

    Animation style is pretty cool---
I think the creepiest part of these three episodes so far is the opening sequence. I was imagining these would be tellings of old Japanese creepy stories (Kumo no Onna, Cut Mouth Woman, etc), but it didn't really live up. The third one was my favorite so far, and I hope that they follow the trend of getting better.

  • Short Horror That Packs A Punch
In my opinion, Yamishibai is a great example of how when it comes to horror, sometimes less is more.

Each episode is stand-alone and clocks in at just under 5 minutes, but always manages to tell a coherent and creepy narrative. The show doesn't waste any time trying to be funny or creating lovable characters. Really, the characters are only there as a vessel for that episode's frightening ...
