Manga-Camera App Turns Your Photos into Electrifying Comic Panels

Free app features over 20 frame styles to spice up your pics

Manga-Camera is an iOS app recently unleashed by the folks at SuperSoftware. Its function is pretty self explanatory: Photos taken within the app transform into black and white manga-style comic panels, with over 20 frame styles to choose from, most complete with bold sound effects.

Here's a sampling of the available frame options:

We tried the app out over the weekend, and for the most part it's good fun. Some things are easier to get good results with than others, though. My friend has a white dog named Rocky, for instance, and all pics of him taken in the app basically turned him into an invisible ghost. There also doesn't appear to be a way to switch cameras in-app, so you'll have to take pics of yourself the old fashioned way like I did.

It has many limitations as far as what's going to look good, but it's free, and for that we salute Manga-Camera and have no reason not to recommend it to others. Below you'll see some of the results from a day of football watching with friends, a baby, and a different dog named Baker.

The horror of Twin Tail from The Return of Ultraman!

This one makes it look like my friend's head is carved into the side of a mountain

Never has there been a more intense stack of beer cans

Even I have to admit I find it shocking

Inanimate objects like this skateboard deck work particularly well

This pic turns a regular baby into a V.I.B. (Very Important Baby, duh)

DOOOOOON! Look out, Baker's pissed and she ain't gonna take no guff!

Anyone else try this out? Share links to your pics if you have!
