Check out our new interview!
One of the most pleasant new anime coming in the Winter 2020 season is A Destructive God Sits Next To Me, a series with a very interesting sense of humor. Crunchyroll describes the story of the series as follows:
High school student Koyuki Seri has a disposition for whipping out witty retorts... but hates people who wait for those retorts! Much to his dismay, he had caught the eye of Hanatori Kabuto, who suffers from a terrible case of delusions of grandeur and everything about him could warrant a retort. Seri swears that he will never utter a retort about Kabuto, but he just can't hold back. Not to mention, there seem to be even more strange people gathering around him... A high school boys' comedy that'll make you laugh and laugh (but can also be cute at times) is about to start!
Luckily, we were able to land an interview with Fukuyama Jun and Sakurai Takahiro, the voice actors behind the leads of Destructive God. Here's what they had to say about the show's unique sense of humor and what you can expect when it debuts:
Fukuyama Jun: (speaking English) I’m Fukuyama Jun, and I play and I play Koyuki Seri in the new anime A Destructive God Sits Next To Me.
Sakurai Takahiro: (speaking English) And I’m Sakurai Takahiro. I play the role of Hanadori Kabuto.
Jun: So, why did we start off with introducing ourselves in English? Because this video will be playing in the North American region. And we hope that you fans overseas will take this opportunity to check out the show.
So, to tell you more about the show, it's a school comedy about Koyuki Seri, who can' keep from screaming at his outrageous friends, particularly his crazy pal Hanadori Kabuto, who thinks he's some kind of fantastic video game character.
Sakurai: Do you think they'll get the jokes?
Jun: Well, what I've been told is that English jokes are all about passion and rhythm. I think as long as we’ve got that, they’ll get the point.
Sakurai: Yeah. Those two things can be our weapons.
Jun: So what makes this show special is the relationships between the characters, particularly the way that Hanadori will act a little out of control and crazy, and then Koyuki lets loose at him in a way that makes people think that Koyuki's the weirdo. There's a kind of (in English) magic of perception there. I'm trying to use English words for the English video.
Sakurai: Yeah. I’m not sure it works.
Jun: Yeah, I said that whole thing and they only heard "magic." Anyway, I'm hoping you'll enjoy the relationships between the characters.
Sakurai: It's a fast-paced comedy. So maybe there'll be some things they don't get, but just know that this is what life in school in Japan is like.
Sakurai: There are lots of kids like that. Lots of students.
Jun: Yes. It's a big problem for our country.
Sakurai: Crazy, huh?
So this show was unusual compared to most anime in that when we did the voices for it, the visuals were pretty close to done. This made it a lot easier for us to make sure we got the tempo right, and make something that you'd really enjoy. And to be honest, we're feeling really confident about it.
Sakurai: It was fun just to watch the visuals. So when you're watching, I hope you'll be able to enjoy the quality of the animation.
Jun: And that's all we have to say. Look forward to the anime! This has been Fukuyama Jun, the voice of Koyuki Seri.
Sakurai: And Sakurai Takahiro, the voice of Hanadori Kabuto.
Jun: Bye bye!
