An Awful Villain Appears

Tanjiro struggles to sever the head from the tiny body of Upper Rank 4 Demon Hantengu. As his blade makes contact with Hantengu’s neck, Genya sees the four Emotion Demons immediately react. The Anger Demon fuses with the others to become a new foe stronger than any single one of them.

Zohakuten, the new demon, is the incarnation of Hantengu’s hatred. As one of the most overwhelming emotions, this demon has the intensity and presence to match.

Tanjiro is Undeterred

Genya and Tanjiro are frozen in place by Zohakuten’s sheer power. Genya feels the vitality draining from his body just from being in the demon’s proximity. The aspect of Hantengu doesn’t attack physically — yet — but instead berates the Demon Slayer for attacking the poor, small demon.

Tanjiro, however, doesn’t let the hypocrisy slide. He declares his intention to stop Zohakuten from killing anyone ever again and finds the strength to raise his sword.

Tokito Tries One More Time

With only a little bit of air left in his lungs, Tokito remains trapped inside Gyokko’s watery prison. Gyokko’s curiosity gets the best of him and the Upper Rank 5 demon leaves Tokito to look inside the swordsmiths’ shed. Tokito uses the last of his oxygen for one more strike against the side of the water bubble… and his chipped blade can’t pierce through.

As he resigns himself to death, he sees a vision of Tanjiro gently encouraging him. He realizes it wasn’t Tanjiro who once said the same thing to him. But who was it?

Haganezuka Keeps His Focus

Gyokko lurks in the doorway of the swordsmithing shed. Haganezuka’s apprentice desperately defends the swordsmith, who is still polishing the antique sword Tanjiro found inside the Yoriichi Type Zero training automaton. He’s concentrating on the blade so intently that he doesn’t hear Gyokko attacking his apprentice behind him.

No matter how much Gyokko calls out to Haganezuka or threatens him, the swordsmith doesn’t notice him. The only thing he sees and hears is the polishing of the steel blade. The Upper Rank demon is furious. Although he could easily kill him, Gyokko is determined to break his concentration instead.

Tokito Remembers

As the vision of Tanjiro tells Tokito to never give up, Kotetsu shows up outside the bubble with a knife in hand. He’s determined to save the Mist Hashira. Kotetsu doesn’t realize a demon is behind him and it slashes the young boy. Kotetsu desperately breathes into the bubble. It’s just enough to give Tokito the oxygen he needs.
