Original illustrations of Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, Megurine Luka, MEIKO and KAITO support creative commons activities
Creative Commons, a US based non-profit devoted to expanding the range of creative works available for others to build upon legally and to share, has welcomed blue haired vocaloid Hatsune Miku to the group. Vocaloid software developer Crypton Future has opened the original illustrations of Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin, Kagamine Len, Megurine Luka, MEIKO and KAITO to support open creative activities for creators all over the world.
Those licenses only apply to the original illustrations of the characters, and any music, videos, illustrations and 3DCG related to Crypton's characters are NOT licensed under CC license unless otherwise noted. These existing artworks include copyrights of the creators who made them.
“Hatsune Miku has inspired thousands of people to create their own musical recordings and remixes. It’s fitting that she’d become CC-licensed, joining forces with a movement that lives to make sharing and remixing easier. I’m thrilled to welcome to welcome Hatsune to the ranks of CC-licensed works.”
–Catherine Casserly, Creative Commons CEO
“Crypton’s Hatsune Miku is an amazingly unique, inspiring and successful example of how sharing pulls together in community to empowers and explosion of creativity. It’s one of my favorite projects. I’m so excited that Creative Commons can now be part of that story.”
