Warner Bros. Chooses Live Action "Robotech" Director

Project will be first movie for commercials director Nic Mathieu

Turns out the effort to produce a live action adaptation of Robotech are not only live, they're progressing. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Nic Mathieu has been tapped to direct Robotech, Warner Bros.’ big-budget adaptation of Harmony Gold's localization of Tatsunoko-produced mecha anime The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA.


While various writers have been attached to the project this is the first time a director has been tied to the big budget mecha title. Mathieu is a commercials director who will be stepping up to direct a movie for the first time. 


The project, which moved into development in the wake of Transformers' success, has Akiva Goldsman and Tobey Maguire producing along with Matthew Plouffe, Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell.
