Sumire Uesaka in the Land of the Soviets

Idol/voice actress visits Russia

Next season, Sumire Uesaka will be returning to the role of Sanae Dekomori in Chūnibyō demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren and doing voice work as the theme for Hōzuki no Reitetsu. She's also set to release her first album "Kakumei Teki Broadway Shugisha Doumei" (Revolutionary Broadway Advocates Alliance) January 8th. Still the Russian otaku and student found time the visit the country.


Uesaka doesn't just cosplay as Russian military and incorporate elements into her songs/album art, the idol/voice actress, turning 22 on December 19th, is  senior in Sophia University's Department of Russian Studies.


Uesaka  an interest in Russia after hearing the former Soviet Union’s national anthem and learning about Russian history, and she began studying the language when she was a high school student.


Last month, Cool Japan organizer Takamasa Sakurai arranged with the Japanese Embassy in Russia for Uesaka to visit Moscow for some “cultural diplomacy” as part of the J-FEST2013


On November 24th, she appeared at 1,000-seat venue was packed with a standing-room-only crowd, introducing herself in Russian with the comment  “I love the avant-garde art of the former Soviet Union,” she said. Then she sung her anime songs, which evoked huge cheers from fans. Uesaka burst into tears, saying, “Meeting with you in Russia was one of my dreams—I’m so happy it came true.”
