"The [email protected]" Film Earned 678,184,800 Yen in Total
The Blu-ray/DVD will be released in Japan on October 8
The [email protected] Movie: Kagayaki no Mukogawa e! (To the Glittering Side) finally finished its four-month domestic theatrical run in Japan last week on May 30. The official site for the film reported its total box office numbers yesterday on June 3 with an appreciative illustration by the director Atsushi Nishigori.
The first The [email protected] anime film which was produced as the sequel to the 2011 TV anime was released on 39 screens across Japan on January 25, 2014. As a result of the unexpectedly long run, it earned 678,184,800 yen (about US$6,608,000) with 462,570 ticket sales from 85 theaters. The numbers are quite good for a film adaptation of a midnight anime, and it proved that the franchise has successfully built a new large fan base from the anime series. The Blu-ray/DVD of the film is scheduled to be released in Japan on October 8.
