"Kingdom Hearts III" Switches Over to Unreal Engine 4

Next game is in the works for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

While speaking with Famitsu magazine, Kingdom Hearts III director Tetsuya Nomura revealed some new info on development. The team recently stopped using Square Enix's in-house Luminous Engine, making the switch to Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4.

According to Nomura, despite the change-up development is progressing on schedule. Here's what he had to say regarding the engine switch:

"Due to having switched to Unreal Engine 4 for various reasons, we're having trouble on some parts as far as rendering goes, but with help from the folks at Epic Games, progress is going safely."

At the moment Nomura and his team are working on scenario writing and world selection, while Nomura drums up some new designs for Sora and Riku's outfits.

Kingdom Hearts III is currently in the works for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
