Mamuro Oshii's Pioneering "Dallos" Streams on Hulu

1983 sci-fi generally regarded as anime's first direct to video OVA

An interesting bit of anime history is now being presented streaming on Hulu. During his work on Studio Pierrot's adaptation of Rumiko Takashi comedy Urusei Yatsura, future Ghost in the Shell director Mamuro Oshii started taking on independent work with 1983's sci-fi Dallos, which has become generally regarded as anime's first direct to video OVA.

The four episode series presented by Bandai can be reviewed here.

They describe it

In a near future, mankind has moved from a drained Earth to the Moon. Rebel acts of terrorism lead to conflicts with the Earth Federal Government. A mysterious entity called Dallos appears to restore hope.
