New "Cyborg 009" Anime in the Works

Directed by Jun Kawagoe (Cyborg 009 The Cyborg Soldier)

Ishimori Production today announced that a new anime adaptation of Shotaro Ishimori/Ishinomori's representative work Cyborg 009 is in the works as the series' 50th anniversary project. Jun Kawagoe, who worked on the 51-episode 3rd TV anime series Cyborg 009 The Cyborg Soldier in 2001-2002, returns the franchise as the director. How it will be distributed (film, TV series, or web anime) isn't announced yet.

The most recent anime adaptation based on the classic sci-fi action manga series was a feature film 009 RE:CYBORG directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East) and released in October 2012. It was severely panned by critics and bombed at the box office.
