"Assassination Classroom" Film Reaches 2 Billion Yen Mark at Japan's Box Office

The expectation for the sequel becomes very high

After easily drawing 1 million moviegoers in two weeks, the live-action film adaptation of Yusei Matsui's Ansatsu Kyoushitsu/Assassination Classroom manga has been keeping its strong momentum, earning an impressive 2 billion yen by the weekend of April 4-5. It still ranked 2nd in its third weekend box office only behind the 35th Doraemon film Doraemon: Nobita's Space Heroes which has grossed a massive 3.4 billion yen.

Though its actual production cost has never been public, there is no doubt it has become one of the most successful live-action adaptations of popular Japanese manga series. The expectation for the sequel becomes very high, and the director Eiichiro Hasumi admitted that they had already filmed a trailer for it.
