Along with the announcement of cast and staff for the fall TV anime adaptation of Yū-Go Ōkuma and Yoshiaki Tabata's Young Black Jack manga, a preview of the anime has been broadcast. The 2011 eight-volume ongoing offers a prequel to Osamu Tezuka's classic medical adventure manga with the titular mercenary surgeon still in medical school, set in the 1960s.
Saikano's Mitsuko Kase is directing the series at Tezuka Production with noted "Real Robot" genre mainstain Ryousuke Takahashi (VOTOMS, also the director of the TV anime adaptation of Tezuka'sPhoenix) writing series composition.
Akio Ōtsuka, the previous voice of Black Jack narrates with Yuichiro Umehara as the titular lead, accompanied by Shizuka Itō as Maiko Okamoto and Kōji Yusa as Yabu. UMI☆KUUN performs opening “I am Just Feeling Alive.”
