For a limited time, a fairly graphic web trailer offers a look at the first in a trio of anime movie adaptations of the works of Satoshi Itō, a sci-fi novelist who wrote under the name Project Itoh, and who passed away in 2009 at age 34. Empire of Corpses, opening October 2nd, will be followed by Genocidal Organ on November 13 and Harmony December 4th.
Project Itoh's unfinished Empire of Corpses was finished by Akutagawa Prize winner Toh Enjoe. Opening in 19th century London, the historical cyberpunk story follows medical student John Watson, of Sherlock Holmes fame, tracking down Dr Frankenstein's "corpse resuscitation technology."
It won the Nihon SF Taisho Award "Special Award" and Seiun Award.
