It is announced in the 53rd issue of Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine released today that TV drama and film adaptations of Kouji Yamamoto's horror survival manga series Higanjima are in the works for 2016 releases. It was previously adapted into a live-action film directed by Kim Tae-kyun in 2010, then a 10-episode TV drama supervised by Takashi Miike was aired on TBS in 2013. The production of the TV drama's sequel with 200 million yen budget was once announced back in August 2014. The new TV drama is expected to be the announced sequel.

The two main cast of the 2013 drama, Shunya Shiraishi as Akira Miyamoto and Ryohei Suzuki as Atsushi Miyamoto, will star again in both new adaptations. The announcement visual suggests the appearance of their master and the leader of the resistance group, Ryunosuke Aoyama.
