Japanese digital television provider dTV has begun streaming all 48 films and 1 TV special of Otoko wa Tsurai yo ("It's tough being a man!", known internationally as Tora-san), a much-beloved Japanese film series about a loveable loser that currently holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest-running movie series starring a single actor.
The Tora-san series originally ran from 1969 to 1995. The films star Kiyoshi Atsumi as Tora-san, a itinerant peddler with a big heart and a boisterous personality. Tora-san wanders around Japan, all the while dreaming big dreams and falling in love with every pretty woman that he meets, although the poor fellow can never seem to catch a break.
Director Yoji Yamada directed 46 of the 48 Tora-san films (the 3rd film was directed by Azuma Morisaki, while the 4th film was directed by Shinichi Kobayashi). Yamada also wrote or co-wrote all of the screenplays for the Tora-san films. The series began streaming on dTV on December 01, 2015.
