Kodansha Sponsors Contest Seeking New Josei Manga Artists

Contest winner earns a 300,000 yen cash prize and the chance to debut in 1 of 4 manga magazines

Kodansha is sponsoring a contest looking for new talent in the field of josei manga, comics aimed at adult women. The contest is a collaboration between 4 magazines: Kiss, Be-Love, Hatsu Kiss, and ITAN. The winner of the contest will walk away with a cash prize of 300,000 yen ($2435.17 US) and the opportunity to be published in 1 of the 4 magazines listed above.

The judges of the contest include a special panel made up of manga artists Akiko Higashimura (Princess Jellyfish), Yuki Suetsugu (Chihayafuru), Yayoi Ogawa (Tramps Like Us), and Haruko Kumota (Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū). The theme of the contest is "comics that grown women would like to read". There are no genre restrictions, although entries must be received by January 12, 2016.

For more information about the contest, please check out the official Japanese home page here.

EDIT: An earlier draft of this post misidentified the publisher of the magazines as Kadokawa, rather than Kodansha. Thanks go to Crunchyroll user lttlrshark for the correction.
