"Yo-Kai Watch" Beats "Star Wars" in Japan for Two Weeks in a Row

3rd "Chibi Maruko-chan" film ranks 6th

Following the very successful opening weekend, the second anime feature film from Level-5's Yo-Kai Watch franchise, Yo-Kai Watch the Movie 2: King Enma and the 5 Stories, Nyan!, still topped Japan's box office in its second weekend, again beating Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

 

The second Yo-Kai Watch film sold 450,000 tickets for the December 26-27 frame, and its total gross has reached 2.3 billion yen on 2.15 million admissions. Meanwhile, Star Wars: The Force Awakens ranked second again with 440,000 admissions, earning 3.8 billion yen in total. The third Chibi Maruko-chan film, Chibi Maruko-chan: A Boy who Came from Italy, which produced for the TV anime series' 25th anniversary, ranked 6th in its first weekend.
