Japanese Police Arrested 44 People for Illegal Uploading in Three Days

93 places were searched by the 29 prefectural police

At this time of year, Japanese Police have conducted an intensive investigation for illegal uploading of intellectual properties, such as anime, manga, films, and music, since 2009. Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Anti-Cybercrime Division announced on February 19 that they arrested 44 people for copyright infringement in three days between February 16 and 18. They arrested 33 in 2014 and 40 in 2015. 

 

According to the release, 29 prefecutural police joined the investigation for the crime using file sharing software and searched 93 places across Japan. The arrested people include:

 

54-year-old man in Shimane (Share/anime music, videos, package data)

41-year-old-man in Akita (Share/CD bundled with an anime Blu-ray as a bonus item)

33-year-old man in Kanagawa (Share/anime DVD)

45-year-old man in Fukuoka (Share/anime CD)

46-year-old man in Shizuoka (Perfect Dark/anime films)

32-year-old man in Aichi (Share/TV anime)

32-year-old man in Kanagawa (Share/TV anime)

38-year-old man in Chiba (Share/TV anime)

38-year-old man in Gifu (Perfect Dark/anime CD)

52-year-old man in Kyoto (Share/anime CD)

57-year-old man in Nara (Cabos/anime CD)

24-year-old man in Saga (Cabos/anime CD)

46-year-old man in Kumamoto (Share/anime CD)

30-year-old man in Osaka (Share/manga)

 

 

No matter whether it is for profit or non-profit purposes, posting copyrighted materials (anime, films, TV

programs, music, pages from magazines before and after their releases) onto the internet without copyright

permission is illegal in Japan. The criminal act can result in a 10-year jail sentence or a fine of 10 million yen

(about 85,400 US dollars) in the worst case.
