"Yuki Yuna is a Hero" Fights for Local Tourism in Kan'onji City

Local government partners with 2014 TV anime in 22 million yen city-revitalization project

The city of Kan'onji, which is located in the western part of Kagawa Prefecture and sports a population of about 60,000 people - is partnering with the 2014 TV anime Yuki Yuna is a Hero to promote local tourism. The partnership is a 22 million yen (about $197,000 US) project that will include advertising featuring the cast of Yuki Yuna is a Hero and an original promotional video in which Yuki and her fellow members of the Hero Club point out local attractions.

Kan'onji City serves as the basis for the fictional city of Sanshu in the series, and many local sites (such as the udon shop Tsuruya) appear in the show. Local government officials note that Kan'onji is already an informal destination for "anime pilgrimage" tourists, and that they hope these new efforts will allow visitors to enjoy the charms of the real city of Kan'onji as well as the fictional city of Sanshu.
