With March 30th's Gintama° episode 316, or 51 depending on your reckoning, the adaptation of Hideaki Sorachi's manga wrapped up the Farewell Shinsengumi arc, and the anime for the time being. Meanwhile, the manga is in its Rakuyou Arc, launched in August 2015 and so far the series' longest. So, before the anime went away, it hinted the story might be coming to anime in the future.  

With the manga heading to its conclusion, Yoichi Fujita, director of the series (and Mr. Osomatsu) has also mentioned that he is eying a reunion in the future.
