Big screen reboot opens on March 24, 2017
Last month we got our first look at Elizabeth Banks in costume as Rita Repulsa, but we've only seen the new Power Rangers movie's Rangers out of costume. That changed earlier today when Entertainment Weekly went up with the first photo of the new suits, which are certainly a change from the spandex-heavy style of the original.
According to director Dean Israelite, "The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis … These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit."
Production designer Andrew Menzies added, "It's tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume … Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that's not man-made. You can't win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans."
The cast inside those outfits includes Becky Gomez as the Yellow Ranger, RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, and Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger.
Power Rangers opens on March 24, 2017.
