Filming begin in Italy next month
The Daily Cyzo reports of the lead cast for the live-action adaptation of Fullmetal Alchemist have been confirmed as the film prepares to begin shooting in Italy this June. Hey! Say! JUMP and NYC boy band performer/voice actor Ryosuke Yamada is set to play Edward Elric, along with Tsubasa Honda (live-action Blue Spring Ride's Futaba Yoshioka) as Winry Rockbell and Dean Fujioka (The Pinkertons) as Roy Mustang.
Visual effects art turned director Fumihiko Sori, who won a Japanese Academy Award for his adaptation ofn Taiyō Matsumoto's manga helms the projects.
He notes that while the movie's cast is Japanese, it will be shot in locations with a European cultural backdrop, giving it a unique identify, not tied to any race or nationality. He also looks forward to the challenge of bringing Alphonse's armor to the screen in a way that will satifying fans.
Series manga author/creator Hiromu Arakawa says that while FMA has already been adapted into various other media, she looks forward to seeing what the realism of film will be to it, as well as how it connect to the CG.
