On June 11th, Christina Grimmie, a singer known for her performances on talent competition TV show The Voice, and before that on YouTube, tragically passed away at age 22 after being shot during a concert in Orlando, Florida the night before. Grimmie had been a fan of anime and manga, as well as Japanese games, and had used a quote from Tokyo Ghoul protagonist Ken Kaneki in her Twitter profile. "All the disadvantages of this world are due to the insecurities of the person himself's ability."

Tokyo Ghoul author Sui Ishida responded to her passing with a tribute.

Grimmie's publicist has pointed a GoFundMe page to help out the artist's family.
