Meet the Cycling Ladies of the "Long Riders!" TV Anime

TV anime adaptation based on bicycling sports manga coming in October of 2016

The official home page for Long Riders!, an upcoming TV anime adaptation based on the bicycling sports manga of the same name, has updated with character profiles for the principal cast. The cast includes:

Nao Tōyama as Ami Kurata, an 18 year old freshman in college. Ami is known as a clumsy girl with no sense of coordination. She takes up cycling in order to better herself and finds the activity a fulfulling experience, but as a novice cyclist, she's better at whining than winning races.

Hiromi Igarashi as Aoi Niigaki. Aoi is Ami's childhood friend, and they attend the same university. Unlike Ami, Aoi is highly athletic and cool under pressure. Aoi trained in cycling under her father, and she has very powerful legs. She is excited that Ami is interested in bicycle racing, and looks forward to her friend's development with bated breath.

Rumi Ōkubo as Hinako Saijō, a third year college student and Ami's senior. Although Hinako is tiny in stature, she rides a road bike in a very flashy manner. Hinako is the one who introduces Ami to the world of long-distance bicycle racing. She often encourages Ami to "do it now!" in order to reach greater athletic heights.

Yurika Kurosawa as Yayoi Ichinose, a third year college student who attends the same university as Hinako. Hinako and Yayoi are often seen enjoying long rides together. Yayoi appears to be a soft-spoken and glamorous young lady, and Hinako envies these qualities in her friend. In truth, Yayoi is an otaku with a mechanical fetish, and she applies her specialized knowledge to maintaining her bike.

Yōko Hikasa as Saki Takamiya, a third year college student. Although she attends the same university as Hinako and Yayoi, she is almost never present on campus, because Saki is constantly engaging in long-distance rides (e.g. from Chiba all the way to Kyushu). Saki's motivation for biking is to prop up her gluttony; she surprises everyone with how much food she can put away.

The original Long Riders! manga by Longriders is serialized in Ichijinsha's Comic Rex shonen manga anthology magazine. The Long Riders! TV anime is directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara and features animation by Actas. Long Riders! will begin its Japanese broadcast in October of 2016.
