Willem Dafoe To Voice Ryuk In Netflix's Live-Action "Death Note"

Nat Wolff stars alongside Margaret Qualley, Keith Stanfield, Paul Nakauchi and Shea Whigham

Mashable has reported that veteran actor Willem Dafoe, currently filming Justice League, where he's playing Aquaman support character Nuidis Vulko, has been tapped to voice shinigami Ryuk in the Adam Wingard helmed live-action adaptation of Death Note being prepared for Netflix.  


Cast also includes Nat Wolff (The Fault in Our Stars) as Light Turner, Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers) as Misa Amane equivalent Mia Sutton, Keith Stansfield (Straight Outta Compton) as L, Paul Nakauchi as Watari and Shea Whigham as James Turner.


Netflix acquired the project after Warner Bros.’ rights expired. The streaming service plans to present it in 2017.

Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four) wrote the most recent draft of the script. Roy Lee (The Ring) and Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) are producing with Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka. Jonathan Eirich and John Powers Middleton are executive producing with Miri Yoon and Brendan Ferguson.
