Romance Anime "Maison Ikkoku" Returns to Japanese TV in August

Re-broadcast on Chiba TV will feature all 96 episodes of the 1986 - 1988 TV series in an HD remastered format

Maison Ikkoku, a classic 1986 - 1988 TV anime based on the romance manga of the same name by Rumiko Takahashi, is returning to Japanese TV in August with an HD remastered re-broadcast on Chiba TV. The series will be broadcast Monday through Friday during the 18:30 time slot (6:30 PM JST) beginning on August 29, 2016.

The Maison Ikkoku TV anime originally ran for 96 episodes on Fuji TV in 1986 - 1988. The series follows Yusaku Godai, a luckless young man who moves into a boarding house to study after failing his college entrance exams. Godai wants to get serious, but he's constantly distracted by his nosy, noisy neighbords and by his growing attraction to Kyoko Otonashi, the beautiful young widow who manages Maison Ikkoku.

The original Maison Ikkoku manga was serialized in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits seinen manga magazine from 1980 - 1987, and a total of 15 collected volumes of the series were released. Viz Media releases an English language version of the Maison Ikkoku manga in the United States. Viz Media also released the Maison Ikkoku TV series on R1 DVD, but this publication is now out-of-print.
